I miss my old PS3. It was one of the OG ones, the 60 GB version with silver trim (unlike the poorfag 20 gig version). I basically gave it to my mom after shifting to PC in 2010 and long story short it's probably gone along with all the games I had for it. At least emulation is coming along nicely.

Those were my two games I bought day 1 on the launch of the console. Absolutely mindblowing. In fact because I was one of the first X many thousand people to sign up to the PSN in europe sony sent me a blu ray copy of Casino Royale.

Shit now that i've got my ps3 hooked to an oled screen I should dust that off an watch it again even if only for the intro animation with the deck of cards.

Fond memories of Haze. It introduced me to Korn because of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IssLAON48s which doesn't even sound like a True Korn song (because Jonathan Davis made it entirely by himself lmao) and I made a friend play the whole thing with me, and he's not as exposed to games outside of WoW or CS, so he was like "Bro this story is fucking awesome." even though I was going off internet lore and expecting to hate it.
It really is a corny narrative, but when you have a friend who just accepts it and loves it, it turns it into a good time. I still laughed at the "Don't tell my mom!" when you kill the final boss.

Instead of letting it change monthly, set the color you want, and I think you want Classic theme/
>>
>>736788296
You download a program called ps2classicsgui and select your ISOs and hit "Encrypt". This produces a rom with a ".BIN.ENC" file extension. You then FTP or transfer this to your PS3's harddrive, and play it using Webman and PS3Hen. Once you have that jailbreak it comes with a settings menu that lets you install "PS2 Classics Launcher" and "PS2 Config Database". You just install those two, and then select your encrypted rom file in the PlayStation 2 menu on XMB, and then you can run the PS2 loader app and it launches the game that you sideloaded.
>>
>>736788296
>>736788527
Alternatively you can also turn them into .pkg (PS3 installation files) after encrypting them, and then you just install them from a USB drive, so they're always loadable instead of manually loading the rom and opening the launcher. I prefer the launcher, because it allows me to have my NTFS drive plugged in with all my encrypted roms, and then I can transfer the ones I'm playing back and forth between the PS3 drive and the USB drive and not have to reinstall/uninstall. Some games also run better if you sideload the rom with the PS2 Launcher than if you install it. I couldn't get MGS2 to register pressure-sensitive inputs as a manually installed game, but it worked once I side-loaded it.

Does anyone trophy hunt with a modded PS3? I was wondering if playing from an .iso can screw up your timestamps because of the increased loading time compared to playing off a disc? Obviously games that have a digital release wouldn't have this, but playing something like Splatterhouse, which never got a PSN release, would make it obvious right?

Use multiman to copy them from your drive or whatever and into the GAMES folder, there's a separate one for each type, if you've already backed up a ps2 game you just gotta find that folder, it should have the ISO in it then you just add them into that folder, PS3 can only read fat32 drives at first but there's another file manager that reads NTFS, I think its called IRISMAN but I'm not sure
>>

The only reason why you'd touch HEN is if you're only interested in pirating PS3 games and you don't have a hackable PS3.
>>
I have a fat CFW (non BC) PS3 that I haven't used in like 8 years. It was console banned from accessing the internet and I used to have to purchase new Console IDs or whatever to get on PSN- is there a work around for this now?
>>
>>736789801
You can use any drive, even NTFS, and create a folder called PS3ISO on its root. Then you just dump in PS3 iso files in that folder, and you can play them off the drive directly, by mounting them like discs.

Once you've put them on the drive, you have to connect it to the PS3, start PS3Hen, and then enter Webman Setup and select something called "PrepISO" (which you also download from the Webman menu somewhere). If it clears correctly then it reboots the XMB with a list of games found in the PS3ISO folder, and now you can simply mount them on the fly, and play anything you put there.

But if you get your ISOs from Redump (from Myrient in the past, or Minerva) then you need to decrypt them first. RPCS3 can play them without this, but your PS3 won't load them if you don't decrypt them. You can download PS3 Redump keys from many sites, and then you have to use a little .exe tool called "ps3decrypt" where you just drag and drop your ISOs one at a time, and then it outputs the decrypted rom.
>>
>>736790695
For NTFS you just use the Webman Setup browser screen, and go to Files. Then it can copy files. Much faster and compatible than Irisman or Multiman if you use NTFS. I had a hiccup though. My drive was GPT partitioned. It has to be MBR, so I had to reformat it, which was a right pain.

Lol mw2 on the ps3 was totally filled with hackers somehow. Like it actually public games, during mw2s prime it didn’t really have any hackers. For your XMB play menu games (which is most of mine): Highlight the game and push triangle. In the menu that comes up there's some bank called 'information' or 'tag' or something. It's filled with a ' - ' hyphen by default. Replace that with 'a' for alien 'd' for dead space, etc. Now your games are alphabetized into folders. Or you can organize them by genre or whatever but I like alphabetical order.

I started using my PS3 with component cables instead of HDMI because I honestly just give up dealing with this system's shitty HDCP. It's kind of funny because when the resolution is set to 480i 16:9 a bunch of XMB interface elements start breaking, and I'm wondering if they either just never tested all the UI options properly or if it broke with some system update and nobody gave a shit or even noticed. 480i 4:3 works fine.

whats the most demanding game on ps3 besides naughty dog games or god of war games?
>>
>>736795969
The "fault" of the engine is that the entry barrier seems to be low and it has all the companies need to print "AAA" games that look exactly like each other. (And these games still take 5 years to make and cost 1 billion to produce :D.) I'm fairly sure you can absolutely make any kind of game in the world with UE, just no need to. Also no need to optimize anything because you can just cut on costs by not hiring people who can optimize and transfer the cost to people needing to buy better hardware. This is kind of awkward on consoles tho because people can't upgrade them like pc.

I played I think GT3 on ps2 and I liked doing the short 30 second tutorial parts to get driver licenses because they are short burst to test/develop your skills. Then I went to my first race and I realized how much I would have to just hold down X and just quit.

Each track has an optimal path for a vehicle class and even for the heavier vehicles it might not be the route you think. Like the grizzly for example (especially as that is the most used track) the optimal route is from the start (remember it doesn't start at the stat/finish line)take right and go up the ramp, follow that along over the two bridges, dive under the rock arch at the hard left. stay to the left of the pylon but go right between the car wrecks. Take a sharp left off the big jump so you can go through the left side route through the canyon bit and then drop down where the left path that crosses over is that all the bikes and ATVs take.

That route is fastest for every class.

Unlike prior console generations where muh crt is a reasonable enough excuse really the 7th gen stuff was aimed at flat panels so playing NFS Prostreet at 4k and all of the fps vs 720p on a good day and 30fps isn't a contest.

I won't get rid of my ps3 make no mistake but unless I go hit up the likes of ebay for games I didn't play 15 years ago it won't see much use (honestly if I had wanted to play a given game I could've just bought it as unlike many anons here I was a working adult when the ps3 launched).

I will admit, I was a 360 kid back in 2007. The PS3 just never had anything I wanted to play, until years later when I saw footage of Demon's Soul's. Of all the games in all the consoles. That is one of the few that made me want to play it. Just like X-Blades, or Heavenly Sword.

Its a more suitable term. Hack is a general term and could mean any kind of quirky way of handling a computer task. It was silly that "hack" became a synonym for gaining admin access to your own gaming console

Maybe when I get out of the military I can make my Zodiak-themed Action-Adventure hack and slash in UE3. PS3/X360/PC release.

Well yeah you obviously can make it because that's what the engine was kind of designed for, kind of wondering why other than it would obviously be cool to see the ps3 run something you have made. The bigger audience is obviously people with low end computers who might like a game that should run on a potato

Just got finished with the Holy Trinity of Ace Combat using a PS3 flightstick (which works perfectly since the PS3 takes USB controllers directly unlike shitty PS4)

My version of demon's soul's is the black phantom edition with the little guidebook. Pretty neat.

...especially if your game has something retro looking in it and I just say retro looking but we know UE3 era games are not considered retro here yet

If I'm going to make a video game, I want it to be able to be enjoyed by everyone. Make it stable for Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, and even 11. Linux. Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
Anyone who wants to play it on their Series X or PS5 can wait or get a PC.
>>736802747
It will have a look similar too... Well something like this. Give it that dreamlike quality. Stylized, not necessarily realistic. Not everyone needs to see every pore on the player character's left buttcheek.

For me it's the exact opposite. I don't see the point in collecting for PS2 cause I feel like it's a hassle, I would have to get a CRT or deal with playing at 4:3 with black bars on a flatscreen which looks ugly as hell, have to deal with crap resolutions or spend a ton of money on an upscaler, have to deal with memory cards, etc. If you go back to the PS1 era and prior it's even worse for collecting, especially since I live in EU I would have to go out of my way to import NTSC consoles and games because PAL versions literally all ran in slow motion at 70% speed. And the emulators for those consoles work perfectly at this point, even having some nice features like widescreen patches

Meanwhile 7th gen is at that spot where emulation is still crap for most games, and PC ports aren't great like they were for games during the PS4 era. Pretty much every time you gotta read up pcgamingwiki to fix a bunch of shit before you can even start playing, often you need some workaround to get your controller working, or there's issues on specific hardware, etc. I still do end up playing games from 7th gen on PC, but sometimes I just wanna fire up my 360 or PS3 and start playing right away

Damn, I would want to check it out. I have the USB to serial port cable and can solder connections from the motherboard to diagnose what's wrong. If it's an older system it's probably the GPU but the reason I started doing it is because people were misdiagnosing problems.

>mfw unpatched midnight club LA
People who talk about rubberbanding in the NFS underground games or how hard midnight club 2 is don't know what the fuck they are talking about. It doesn't help that most people who have played LA played it patched as the first patch explicitly nerfed it.

See also: how wipeout HD was straight up impossible for a huge amount of players to beat until they changed how the time trial events worked.

Blame njudea for that. The GPU was ultimately made with defective materials that while didn't overheat easy, it worsened over time from the properties of thermal expansion. It's not even from the BGA soldering between the motherboard and GPU but directly on the processor die and GPU housing, so inevitably the GPU has to be replaced. Yet njudea couldn't be bothered to issue a recall, it was totally on Jenson then. Maybe Sony could have taken the fall and issued one but it's really on Jenson

No console manufacturer except nintendo has ever worked with nvidia more than once.

I don't have my fat launch PS3 anymore, idk what even happened to it, gave it to my sister over a decade ago.
I still got my copy of talladega nights that came with it though.

Honestly I am thinking about getting a used PS3 just to play older games even if I have most of them on steam, I'd like to get the trophies I missed on a lot of the older games I got. Also, there's still some multiplat games that never got ported to PS4 / 5 that are stuck on PS3, Deus Ex HR for example. Yeah, I could play it on PC which I have it on, but I kind of want to play it on PS3 which I never did just to get all the trophies

I was sort of slightly disappointed with the ps3 library at the time, as a dirty old weeb it was mostly a disgaea machine, kek. I should clean my old console out, assembling my own computer doesn't scare me but something about disassembling delicate old tech they didn't really want you pulling apart sort of spooks me.
