DAO and ME1 released back to back and despite both having PG-13 sex scenes, only ME1 is the one that got the spotlight in the news for it. That and it being a space opera Gears of War. DAO didnt get the same kind of success due to being a crpg that "only sweaty nerds" play, but lack of voice protagonist put several normalos off it. You see this as Mass Effect largely went unchanged beyond streamlining for every game, meanwhile Dragon Age was attempte to pivot into being fantasy Mass Effect. 2 was rushed, but all the pieces were there and the design summed up as "Awesome button." Voiced protag, super simplified stats, barely any gear, could largely play without pausing, mimicing ME2 with DA2's strengths being it's companions. DA2 went up against Witcher 2 for fantasy game of the year and didn't fare well. Inqui was possibly the forerunner to Anthem since it was supposed to be an online game of some kind then quickly repurposed for singleplayer, if you enjoy offline-mmo then it's a good numbing game to watch a series to as numbers go up and you explore. Trespasser was a vitamin boost for those that still played for the lore. Veilguard had almost the exact same development history as Avowed: The suits wanted their live-service game, but change in management and vision meant it kept spinning it's heels until the publisher wanted something out. DA never got a change to grow on it's original systems and a remaster will never happen since it was made completely in-house and all the engine programmers are long gone.
Is there anything redeeming about Veilguard in the slightest? If I pick all the comedy options or apply a mod is there anything that might be fun to laugh at?

First they tried to force them to pinch out DA2 in a year and some change which immediately fucked any potential it might have had then they forced them to use their retarded in-house engine which wasn't made with open world RPGs in mind which put a drain on time/resources that could have been spent on iterating the game. Then they forced them to pinch it out early just like DA2 but they got the last bit of luck when it came to "BioWare crunch magic" where they somehow managed to blunder into a success despite it all but that only caused EA to double down on their retarded ways which all led directly to Failguard. Dragon age was meant to be a one hit wonder. They also made final fantasy 12, in the same way. These games are intentionally destroyed, but the ip keeps pushing out new games. It’s an ancient tactic, that’s how they kill the desire market. If they just didn’t make dragon age 2 3 and 4, people would be all over why there’s no sequel to one of the best games ever made! So dragon age 2 was really fucking cheap, which is my proof. They reused so many 3D models throughout the game that it was extremely noticeable and ugly. So when they actually just keep releasing shit sequels, it’s like a way to also cash in on the success, in a cheap way. Alright dragon age origins has some pretty impressive design work. Very innovative and creative and well balanced gameplay. You can see how bad they fucked up in awakening, because they didn’t spend the same budget. These games are incredibly costly and time consuming to produce, and likely don’t make their profit back. I’m not sure how much profit origins even made, I’m guessing it lost money though. So there’s like lots of reasons to do that type of thing I guess. Anyways yeah I agree it’s a cool combat system and one of my all time favorites. There will probably be another one day comparable to the big two. Another funny thing is both games have identical puzzles in their respective dungeons, as like an Easter egg.
