I've never cared for these types of games so I just have to take everyone's word for it that they're the hottest shit and everyone but me is clamoring to play them. So I guess there are too many and the genre is oversaturated? I have no idea.

zero depth to the game. Everything is just unlocking more passive traits or overpriced guns and mods in the shop. You have to pay an exorbitant fee to get a decent loadout so u just run sponsored or free kits all the time and it gets old fast. There aren't that many guns compared to something like Tarkov or Hunt Showdown and a solid half of them are overpriced or straight up not for sale and have to be found in raid.

There are only three real maps, they're all too small and the game has none of the mystery or sense of a greater world that halo and destiny both had. Sure there's lore entries in the codex but I can read those off a wiki page or hear them in a youtube video. The quests don't have any narrative weight. You just go in, do some busy work and try to leave. The PvP is ok but not nearly good enough to make up for zero narrative and weak immersion. Destiny and Halo made it feel like you were in an actual universe and there were tiny details everywhere. They were clearly made with love and care, and this seems like much more corporate slop reminiscent of the shitty Destiny expansions we've been getting for the past few years. You vill grind the upgrade tree and be happy.

IK people didn't like the artstyle, but I actually really did even though it was basically copied from the Europa zones in Destiny 2. But cool visuals don't make up for a shitty game. They should've just focused on making more good Destiny updates rather than killing that game and launching another that will die before too long as well. Bungie really fell off.

I don't think that there are enough original Marathon fans out there for this to be a factor. Besides, looking that the style of said games, there really isn't much to work with. The only remake that successfully stayed faithful to its ancient original's style is System Shock, and that only worked because the original had an amazing style. Let's be honest here, Classic Marathon doesn't have an amazing style, and neither do its sequels.

i've played thousands of hours across all extraction shooters, frankly speaking marathon will die unless they do sweeping economy and damage changes. The problem with Marathon is that it only appeals to poopsockers, NEETs, streamers. If you don't treat it as a day job in a trio you're fodder for everyone else.

Ever since Destiny 1 Bungie's been stuck in this mindset of needing to shove MMO mechanics in their FPS. That shit should have staid exclusive to the Destiny series, Marathon reboot should have been it's own thing.

The current end game is basically fighting inside a tiny "puzzle" filled PvP arena with the ultimate goal of trying to fight an MMO raid boss in an extraction shooter setting where "solving" the puzzles require you to grind RNG items in other maps before risking your gear in this one. If you join a random team who don't know what's going on and didn't grind those keys, part of the map is simply locked out for you.

The current playerbase is eating itself if you look at the leddit threads. All the casuals left and now the semi-hardcore players are getting farmed by the no lifers and cheaters until they're gone too and the next rung of try hards get farmed.

also exfils need to be cooler, its a small thing but it really sets up the loop. ARC Raiders did a good job with the elevators but it could be better. Just disappearing into data should only be one way to do it. There should be VTOLs, motorcycles that you ride through a tunnel off into the distance, reaching the edge of the map could count, etc. It just needs to feel more like getting out at the last second and less like a capture point.

In the era of resurgent boomer shooters they chose to take a niche but beloved boomer shooter IP and turn it into an extraction shooter, a genre that doesn't appeal to many people to begin with. On top of that instead of using its original colorful but gritty design scheme, they just went with some post modern vomit scheme and the ugliest character models possible. A design language that only really appeals to the gayest faggot who lives deep in downtown LA and hasn't seen a nongaped asshole in years

It's a combination of factors:
1) People don't like Bungie
2) The market for live service games is pretty saturated
3) People REALLY don't like Bungie
4) People are chasing that Concord/Highguard high
5) The art style is divisive, and character design is questionable, especially for Triage
