Brainstorm ideas for what this should have been. The more specific, the better.
>>
the hairy potter universe is incredibly boring and i never found it appealing but you'd think at least they would make a game about the story of the books or some adventure the characters go on as opposed to just a game set IN that uninspired and bland world

Throw everything out and make a Discworld game instead.

The virgin Harry Potter wizards:
>hide away from the non-magical folk to avoid being genocided
>avoid using their magic on non-magical folk
>hide their school in the middle of the cold and damp ass highlands
>wave little twigs around
>couldn't stand up to one dark lord and two dozen cronies
>only eat big dinners at school
>rise the ranks by reading books, passing tests and making new discoveries like a bunch of nerds
>most powerful wizard got his title by cheating with the Elder Hax Wand
>afraid of death

The Chad Discworld wizards:
>live among non-magical folk, openly display their magical status
>use their magic on anyone who fucks with them, give zero fucks
>put their school smack bang in the middle of their world's biggest city
>use solid oak six foot staffs with knobs on the end
>can stand up to dragons, elves, Things from the Dungeon Dimensions and even the Auditors of all reality
>eat big dinners their whole lives
>rise the ranks by 86ing their superiors
>most powerful wizard fucking earned his title by being too robust and sharp to kill
>summon death to ask him trivial questions

Expand the castle ALOT bigger because its still not lore accurate to the books. Better combat too.
>>
>>736807324
I don't even disagree with you that Discworld and its magic system is far better than Harry Potter

But any statement presented in the "chad vs virgin" format sounds retarded
And you are retarded
>>
>>736807142
"Harry Potter"'s world isn't fleshed out well, the magic isn't explained clearly and magic is a convenient plot tool that is either forgotten about for the plot or ass pulled for the plot, there's no real rules behind it other than some vague wandlore which apparently isn't necessary seeing as African wizards are able to learn it fine with 0 wands.

Make it based on Witch Trainer except make Tonks into a dyke

How does it feel posting this all this time when Discworld is a literal dead series that only a niche crowd even knows about?

everything about why harry potter's story sucks the way it does can be explained by the fact that it's effectively just a teenage girl fantasy story, but with a different coat of paint
j.k rowling hid those facts by making harry a little boy instead of a moody teen girl, but other than that, everything fits- he is a special-wecial widdol boy who is sooooo perfect, his parents were very beloved and important but they died and left him everything but he's being bullied and can't have it because uhhhhh idk his bullies just hate him and are meanie pants, but then he gets saved and gets all the things he deseeeeeeeeeeerves and is the coolest most specialest kid in all the ever!!!1!!!11!!1one! and people don't like him but they're just meeeeeean bullies that he proves wrong but being more special and getting more things he deserves and having hidden powers, and he's owed all the things, and the teachers that are mean to him are just mean because of some personal hangups and are also objectively evil people and the good teachers love him for no reason and give him hollow wins over nothing.... you get the drill, teen girl validation and superiority fantasy

Why do you think I'm doing this? To raise awareness, duh.

how did a mega feminist convince a bunch of chuds to buy this mediocre game?

Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix-esque video game but more open world and RPGy

I read Discworld only to realize it didn't have anything to keep me interested, sure it had interesting ideas and characters but they were lame and fell flat.
There's a reason it didn't explode despite the amount of books.
>read one book
>wow what a neat read
>proceed to read the "second" book
>it's completely different, written differently about someone I don't know, doing things I don't care about and takes multiple chapters to even get a hint of magic
>>
>>736807142
they should have gone with a school simulator like the mobile game instead of an open world with scavenger hunts and quest giver characters
also the 19th century setting was pointless and not properly used
>>
I love the idea of following the same characters as they age up from 11 to 17. I don't believe that's been done in video games before.

The main critique of this game ("it doesn't have this or that") can be re-phrased as that devs didn't have Bethesda amount of resources to create a Bethesda-like world with more quests and characters than a single playthrough can fit.

From this point of view, the devs should have been allowed to continue working either on DLCs or on a sequel, assuming the game sold as well as claimed. It's not that big action-RPGs madi history on release, it was all TES 3, Witcher 3, Darks Souls (and not Demon Souls), etc that had the staying power.
>>
>>736808456
wtf do you mean Bethesda-like world? Everybody wanted more Hogwarts and less open world.

I liked the game, wish they got rid of the brown people, made day to day life in the school a bigger part of the game, and expanded the end game so that your gear progression had a use.

Clumsy, intense, unprotected intercourse with Poppy Sweeting after she gets turn on for how murderous and psychopath the MC is (teenagers love bad guys).

I hope you don't mean underage dating simulator.

Genuine question, why not? Teenage relationships are very common subjects in books, movies, tv shows, and video games.

Either Bully: Hogwarts Edition or a game about an Auror sent to investigate criminal dark magic ring, working in cahoots with goblins. But making a walking genocide as protagonist of a Hogwarts game is too incongruent
>>
>>736808516
I wanted to say, a world with a lot of side quests, side characters, different factions, main quest being more of a suggestion, etc. So that you can do a different thing every playthough. This could mean a bigger, better planned castle with more stuff in it.
>>
>>736808780
Because this would reduce the game and discussion about it to "which teenager has the biggest ass". Also because dating virtual teenagers as a 40 year old loser (talking about myself now) is pathetic.

I can think of no more tedious task than trying to improve this, the latest failed "game" adaptation of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

> a-at least the books were good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

More focus on classes and student npc interactions like Bully. Less about trying to flesh out world lore and more simple shit like helping students pull pranks or finding things/dealing with small problems on or around the school grounds.
>>
>>736808125
I can only think of Fable that does a similar thing, but I think you're on to an important point. A lot of games already make you become much stronger as you level or the story progresses. Turning you from a kid to adult would have a big impact for the player (look, I aged up), while in game it's "just" character models changing (and maybe dialogs); the progression of skills is part of the game already, as well as the game being split into chapters with different quests per chapter. But I guess this would require the devs to actually create different versions of same characters, so it's more work.

Just something like 1-3 on the GameCube/PS2 mixed with Bully. Less realism and trying to look like the movies, the same style as the old games or some of the old book covers would've suited it better. No open world ubislop, the world should've only been the castle grounds and Hogsmeade. It should've taken place during Harry's years with characters people actually care for. The characters and NPCs are all soulless and generic, even more so than Rowling's. A sequel could have handled the 19th century goblin story instead. Having Hogwarts more racially diverse than in the 1990's with hordes of mystery brown people looking like they came straight from the 2020's in 1800's UK and at the same time having Africans claiming their African schools are superior, is ridiculous. Making the game set in the 1990's would've excused having some pakijeets and niggers at least.
>>736807709
Enemy Group C got owned and had their feelings hurt, so it doesn't matter that the author belongs to Enemy Group B and all the money went to (((Enemy Group A))).
>>
>>736807142
i think they executed it perfectly, honestly
you have to remember that the majority of the HP fanbase are women and non-gamers
what they focused on was designing hogwarts and surrounding locale, collect-a-thons and including some kind of environment nurturing in the room of requirement
you can argue it's a mediocre game for regular gamers but remains the only game my sister has ever 100%'ed
