Finally got around to playing it after all these years.
The combat is repetitive and bare bones.
The story is fucking dog shit.
Was this game really carried by 2Bs ass? Really?
Also
>Bro you gotta play the game like 5 times to get the TRUE ending and do all the side quest and 100% the game to TRULY appreciate the dog shit faggot story!
Fuck off. I'll do 3 playthroughs to say I finished it but I'm on the fags route right now and this shit is not good. 5-6/10 at best.

>Was this game really carried by 2Bs ass?
Nope.
It's honest to god an emotional, atmospheric masterpiece, that utilizes the gaming's unique interactive nature to deliver a main bulk of its subtext, that is way more important and impressive than the plot itself - which is still serviceable.

If the game had just been smut, like all the r34 shitposters who did not play the game made it seem like it, I would not have played the game.
However, as soon as I realized that the game was actually way more profound, belonging in the same category as many oldschool classics, like Silent hill, MGS, Ico and SotC, I was sold.
And boy am I glad that I gave it a shot, as otherwise I would've missed THE greatest game of the decade. Not to mention I probably would have never given rest of the franchise a try.

The finale of NA is one of the rare cases in gaming that have moved me to tears.

>"Bro you gotta play the game like 5 times!"
No. You have to just beat the game once (1x).
You have only beaten one CHAPTER. Not even a quarter of the whole story.

B route is where things get interesting, with many of the story beats that were left unanswered finally being fleshed out. 9S' gameplay is also much more fun and interesting. Hacking > > > Slashan' slop.

And obviously, it leads to the brilliant chapter C, where shit truly hits the fan.

>do all the side quest and 100% the game
Nobody's forcing you to do any of that, Anon.
However, a big bulk of DrakeNier games' world and character building is found in the side content. And I'd say that if you don't at least participate in chill fishing and treasure hunting... you must have some ADHD tendencies.

PS: 2B is a leg-fetish bait, not an ass woman. She's practically flat as a board.

Its just too "asian" for me, i cant describe it any other way

I think if you're getting filtered by something as accessible as Nier Automata there's really no hope for you at all.

You just don't understand video games.
>>
>>736809671
>I'll do 3 playthroughs
then you didn't dislike the game

I didn’t like it either. I only care for 2b and then they expect you to slog through as a couple nobodies for 75% of the game. Forget it. I’ll never go back to finish.

>Filtered
I get the game, RETARD. I'm just not enjoying it. Cry me a fucking river.
>>736811069
I've beaten every Senran Kagura game and I didn't like a single one of them. I beat games for backlog purposes. REDDIT says doing A2s playthrough is necessary to actually beat the game so I'm doing it.

Nier Automata is one of the most comfy and engaging games I've played the past decade and half. It's also gorgeous as heck, with a beautiful OST.
I can see myself revisiting this babe once every few years.

Best game of its generation.
The use of the medium to present its themes and story is unmatched. It cannot be replicated correctly in any other medium.

You absolutely do not understand the game at all and you've barely even made it past the tutorial.

It was a product of its time. Or rather, a product of meme marketing, you really had to be there.
It was at the time where PG was memed to death, I had a friend that HATED action games and he bought MGR because he was MGS """fan"""" and he heard PG makes good games, he rage quitted the game and ever touched it after the first gorilla encounter (lol).
When Nier:A was announced, people were instantly screaming: OMG IT'S PG MAKING IT. KAMIGE KAMIGE
Literary nothing mattered, no one gave a fuck about og Nier, especially not Drakengard (both flopped and were $5 garbage bin games before Automato made it $55 used if you were lucky for a while after its release).
Is it actually a bad game? Not really, it's just mediocre like all of Yoko's games, you either get on with his gimmick or not. I honestly only like DG1 and Nier1 because they felt like decent enough original games on PS2/PS3. DG2 was clearly a souless sequel for the sake of it and I didn't touch DG3 with a ten foot pole after its sequel.
Anyway, it's pointless to hate on games because... well, what's the point? I enjoyed certain games but this is not one of those, but certainly I would say this game is objectively overrated at the end of the day because like many of Yoko's works, they are not rated based on it being a good video game but some meme shit only teenagers in their edgy phase care about.
>>
9S had better gameplay than both 2B and 2A combine. So much so that I didn't even see the point in playing is 2A. Who makes a game where you play as 3 characters and only 2 of them play nearly the same?
>>
>>736814726
>only 2 of them play nearly the same?
A2 has a taunt (when holding attack) which enrages enemies so they take but also deal more damage, and berserk mode.
>>
The story is why I'm afraid of trying out Stellar Blade. Didn't really connect with it. Did like the part where she fought Adam, that fight stood out.

Thank you OP. I dropped the game early after I was doing some fetch quests and had to run through the empty desert 3 times in a row for a story that didn't ultimately matter about robot couples. Apparently you unlock fast travel shortly after. But the mix between braindead combat, clunky movement, pointless exploration and boring setting just killed my enjoyment of nier automata. People like to pretend it's an action game but it's not. It's a JRPG that also has some of the worst western game design decisions in it
>>
>>736809671
Yes, the game is fucking trash

Great combat, hot protag and 2deep4u plot which I can watch 5 hour YT breakdowns of. Does not get much better than that for me
>>
>>736809671
This is a weird case where the combat is about as good as the effort you put into it. There are a bunch of different fighting styles involving equipping weapons to different buttons, there's a drone that can shoot even during other actions, there are special moves outside those equipped weapons that can be thrown in during a fight, there's a dodge and even self-destruct sequence that works to end an attack animation early to get to the next hit faster and there's options like a parry that can change how attacking and defending work. Some people will play on easy mashing one button and then complain that it's too simple, though.
>>
>>736811398
After beating the game once, there's a sort of time rewind back near the start, and progressing sometimes means repeating a fight you've already done. It's not the exact same game, though, both because you're playing as a different character who fights differently, and because a lot of the story is specific to that playthrough. It is endearing when all the repeat shit is over, though, so you can move on to all the new stuff.

>Was this game really carried by 2Bs ass? Really?
Americans started worshipping blacks at full force around 2012 and developed their tastes towards nigger asses while also starting to hate big boobs so 4 years later when this game came out in 2016 they managed to delude themselves into thinking it was an ass focused game focusing on big asses when in reality you wouldn't be able to see her butt during 95% of the game(not even cutscenes) aside from the ladder segments, because they were already obsessed with black culture by then

The reality is that is a pretty mediocre game blesses with a godlike soundtrack, and lif you are american or black, you can delude yourself into thinking about asses so that was all they needed for this game.
>>
>>736809671
The story is excellent. You're objectively wrong and it's easily provable just by looking at the numbers the game did. You can still not vibe with it, though, that's valid, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Lots of women, for example, didn't like LotR.
You don't have to finish the game if you hate the story (you're still in your first playthrough around 30%-40% in, judging by what you say; You won't do "3 playthroughs", you're just wrong about how long the game is and how it's structured).
Trust me, the combat doesn't change, it's just the story that gets more and more unfolded. You don't have to force yourself to finish it if you don't enjoy it.
>>

I don't get the hype for the OST in this, it's no E33 OST
Nier has maybe a single track i remember and it's in the empty open world where the singer woman is wailing in chinese
>>
>>736809671
It's a bad game if you're retarded. I'm sorry OP.
>>
>>736809671
People have said why you're wrong about the story and why people like the game but the combat does get kinda lame once you drastically out level the enemies.
If you are on PC there's a mod called WAX that in addition to adding support for other texture/model/scripting mods for the game also recently added a level scaling item to the game in the most recent release. That item literally made my enjoyment of the game increase from "it's well-made and very good, but I've played better games" to being THE GAME OF ALL TIME for me. '
I can't get mad at the devs for not adding this feature in since they had a shoestring budget and a tight deadline to work with, but it really makes the game so much more enjoyable. Also, try out the DLC coliseums. They're pretty rad too. I'm not sure if they mesh well with the level scaling item is I'd just throw it out (you can always reacquire it in the same way if you want it back again).

Otherwise, you literally just got filtered and filtered hard. It's a great game even if some aspects of the combat weren't truly fleshed out.
>>
>>736821728
E33 doesn't have a particularly good soundtrack, it's extremely mid. It was just a lot of normies's first JRPG and first game with any effort put into the music. Even though said effort was literally just some amateur on bandcamp. One of the best songs in E33 is the music for the dancer axon, which is just their attempt to copy the Simone boss and music in Nier Automata. And it's not as good.

>>736821441
He's calling 1 playthrough new game to probably ending E. Start to ending A and then ending B to ending C or D makes up one story reasonable for a video game. I get that ending A is a reasonable place to stop, but if you didn't get ending E, it's because the game pissed you off so much you stopped.

My biggest annoyance playing the PS4 version was that it was easy to outlevel everything to the point combat became a joke. I remember using the debug mode to spawn a bunch of high level enemies in to try and have a challenge again. One of the advantages of the PC version is it was now easy to just manually lower your level so the game was fun again.
>>
>>736809671
Best thread ever
>>
>>736822747
Yeah. It's clear they really want you to focus on most of the sidequests, chip-hunting in the Desert Complex arena and other things after the game since if you do to much of that, you will kill bosses in like 2-3 hits.

I avoided the game for months when you killed enemies in a single hit and they'd barely leave a scratch on you even on Hard. I guess you could eat forbidden fruit but you'd have to beat the Coliseum over and over again (assumig you even have it).
>>
>>736823513
I basically just gave up on expecting fights to be strong enough to pose a threat. If I really wanted to be on par with the enemies, I'd start a new save file where the leveling system worked. It's nice to have an item that lowers level, but it's so annoying to manage that way that I didn't want to use it to be on level for a given fight.

Fair enough. You have to find a way to enjoy the game somehow if you can't fix it. Going through the trouble to fix it would be more annoying than just playing the game.
The devs really should've fixed the difficulty and enemy level scaling to correspond more though, especially since you really can't do all the cool flashy character actionesque moves if you kill the enemies in 1-2 hits.
It's a weird oversight especially for a character action game and I can't help but think it was either something someone forgot to implement or it was a mandate from Square Enix to make it more casual friendly.
