Is there an RPG better than VTMB? I'm not trying to say it's the best I just want to play something better if it exists.
>>736822693sorry, no
new vegas feels kind of similar i guess
>>736823030Only one I can think of in terms of actual role-playing.
>>736822693Deus ex 1
If you haven't tried owlcat games they are better in terms of choice and consequence but all crpgs demand atleast 60+ hours of your life and multiple play throughs.
>>736823493>owlcat games they are better in terms of choice and consequencelol
>>736822693In its particular style/niche? No. It was far and away the most atmospheric, consistently entertaining, well-sculpted narratively (absolute fucking shitshow in gameplay and technical side) game I've ever played. The limitations are definitely very visible today, but it's literally over 20 years old now. Nothing competes with it that I know of and that's incredibly sad.
>>736823606The gameplay is mostly great. The only bad aspect is melee combat, but you can just use guns/powers/stealth instead.
>>736823704It is absolutely not great. It's serviceable at best. It's an incompetent action game paired with a broken RPG veneer. It doesn't ruin the game (anymore, release was a different story) or anything but it's not good.
>>736823534WotR is the only owlcat game I played and its similar to VTMB in its unique approach to the fantasy. Its about ((you)) and a very particular fantasy, the story is just a framework for that. I think in that sense its the most like VTMB but it does require you to do some mental contortions to consider the question from just that angle.
>>736824035owlcrap fags are delusional
>>736824113Who pissed in your cereal this morning?
>>736822693Oh, no!
>>736822693It has pretty bad gameplay, is both rushed and unfinished, and commits the cardinal sin of having genuine trap options in terms of stat distribution. You'll definitely find RPGs that do all of these things much, much better. But when it comes to the dense atmosphere and memorable dialogue, that'll be pretty difficult.
>>736824216Dude was really standing in Griffith Park with a peashooter huh>>736824306Not a lot of them, I think it's really just intimidate and inspect that's genuine garbage.
>>736822693Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. Also if you're in the mood for more VTM play VTM: Redemption
>>736822693The new one improves upon the original but still not great. Otherwise there aren't many RPGs worth playing.
>>736823923Nah, it's great. The act of playing the game is fun. That's what gameplay is.
>>736824374>Not a lot of them, I think it's really just intimidate and inspect that's genuine garbageSeduction's also pretty bad in the sense that Persuasion is just so much better than the other two that purely mechanically speaking you're gimping yourself. Stealth wastes points beyond like level 2 or 3. Hacking is arguably worthless as passwords are static and you could in theory just remember them/write them down from previous playthroughs, but I'm not gonna count that. There's also the matter of potentially wasting points by outleveling skill books/trainers, which means you either blew points to make the boost worthless, or your research stat is sad.
>>736823704>he gameplay is mostly great. The only bad aspect is melee combatRespectfully, you are wrong and you got it backwards. It is gunplay that is irredeemably bad. Melee was mid, but not for the reasons you think. It actually had complex mechanics behind it. Variable attack combos, defensive stance that actually works as a dodge against some attacks, playing around with reach, stun mechanics... The reason why it is perceived as "bad" is that the game is piss easy and most players never realize how deep melee combat can be much less make use of it, because button mashing can win you any fight.Gun play on the other hand, is much worse, because it is extremely reliant on stats, the enemy AI is extremely dumb in gunfights, the guns themselves feel weak and unsatisfactory n most cases, the sound effects are weak, and like half of the enemies in the game are largely resistant to gunfire.
>>736823493Owlcat games are tedious dogshit that are 50 hours too long for their own good
>>736824306>cardinal sin of having genuine trap options in terms of stat distributionThat's the side effect of being a real RPG, one of the skill requirements in a RPG is stat allocation, the game even warns you in character about the necesity of having combat stats and you can do well with the high end guns and just a few dots in firearms.
>>736824843>the guns themselves feel weak and unsatisfactory n most cases, the sound effects are weak, you didn't get the magnum or the assault rifle
>>736824843Not him but I fell for the advice to play melee on my first playthrough and hated it, second playthrough I went guns and it was 10x more enjoyable. IDK what you people are smoking.
>>736824843Lategame gunplay is just AUG and lmao
>>736825000These people don't actually play the game, they probably just watch peopel play it and form opinions based on that, anyone who actually plays finds the gameplay fun enough, it's source, shooting the weak zombies and watching them explode into gibs is particularly fun.
>>736824987Pretty sure I did in my 7 playthroughs... And the Autoshotgun, and the Deagle, and the Flamethrower. That later one is kinda broken, it can onetap any of the vampire enemies... oh, and it can onetap Grünfeld Bach too, did you know that? It can also onetap yourself if you shoot underneath yourself. I'll concede that late-game a handful of guns can be quite strong, but even in their case, gameplay with them is extremely shallow, even compared to melee.
>>736822693Morrowind
>>736825000Guns are backloaded. If you want to focus on guns before hitting Downtown, you'll have to suffer the worthless fucking peashooter for quite a bit.
>>736825543You don't really need to focus on anything in Santa Monica, all the enemies there are trash.
>>736825543You can get a glock and shotgun in Santa Monica
>>736825000>melee or gunsIf you can't stealth and talk your way out of every situation it's not an RPG.
>>736825920if you can use the exact same solution for every situation, then it's a shitty game
>>736822693In terms of the soul? no.
>>736825920Ah, yes, 99% of rpgs aren't TRUE rpgs because some faggot on 4chan said so
>>736825920>stealth and talk your way out of every situationYou can't even do that in real life.
>>736822693rate my Brujah OC for next week's TTRPG session
>>736826697This is why no one in the Camarilla takes your clan seriously.
>>736826697I wish I could have sex with your Brujah OC.
>>736826697btw I put all 3 points into Presence, am I fucked? I reckoned I'd just pump my Strength up with Blood Points to 5 if I really need to pin someone to the wall (base Strength is 2 dots)
When you'retau-ah-ah-ghtthroughfeelings
>>736826697Further demonstrating that Tremere > Brujah.
>>736827451>Tremere>vampiresPick one, Strauss; you're larping witches.>>736826996I don't know in the tabletop game but Presence is pretty strong in the VtmB: Bloodlines.
Toreador is an underrated clan.
>>736827843I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of your body parts all over the room.

>>736828509>>736828835Although to be fair my misandrist librarian turned Tremere was a fun fucking run.
>>736828835Me on the left.
>>736828979Chill out, Bach.
>>736823493Dude, Owlcat games are fucking famous for how utterly lacking they are in reactivity.
>>736828979>What normies think about 4chan usersIt's like what people thought Anonymous was after V for Vendetta.
>>736822693Flawed in many different ways, but I feel like Cyberpunk brought some of that spark back for me
>>736822693better? Deus Ex, the first one, maybe.. although it's not as good on the replayability front (which ironically reflects reality: we got the internet and AI and self driving cars and all kinds of shit, but all the cool utopian sci-fi stuff has practically disappeared since 2017-2018)somewhat equal? sure: Fallout New Vegas, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Deus Ex Mankind DividedCP2077 is alright but in my opinion they focused on the irrelevant parts of what makes something an RPG (tons of nearly identical weapons, useless crafting, duplicates for stuff you need only 1 of throughout the entire game etc.), and the proper parts (world building, plausible city, decisions that influence stuff, role playing opportunities) are slimanyway
>>736822693hopefully deathwish lives up to the hype
