I've just finished my first Madhouse run today. Weird timing.
Anyway, the game is alright, though it's pretty ass to replay due to all the unksippable cutscenes and boring tutorial house section. The guns feel pretty alright (shotguns work as shotguns should), but enemy variety is super low (regular moulded, crawling moulded, big arm moulded, fatty, giant mosquitos???). It has the same issues as Re2 and Re2R, where you start in a fairly interconnected area (though it is pretty low quality in Re7), but then move on to a completely new area, ditching the whole aspect of planning your routes and which enemies to remove permanently.
Also, whole Re7 feels like it was pitched as a completely new IP, but then Capcom slapped Resident Evil logo on it midway through.

That being said, the new cast while good just didn't have the same larger than life charisma as the old one which fit the tone they were going for but in hindsight just didn't cut it. Lady D was okay goonfuel which added to her staying power for a bit but moldy Jack was just a spin on the old hillbilly horror guy. It didn't help that it was early RE engine and everyone was ugly as shit.

RE7 was my first RE game, after I did 8+DLC (mistake it was fucking trash) then RE9.
