The quests are dogshit, the story is incomphensible, the combat feels like you have a twig rather than a sword and it seems to stop you every 5 minutes to tutorialise something.I have no issue at all with people who just give up before the break happens. Its a slog. However, once you get past the opening 10ish hours then it becomes honestly one of the best games I've ever played. The story gets a little better but is still Kojima like gooktrash. But once you have stamina and better gear with skills then the combat becomes a lot better. The exploration is excellent because the game seems to reward you for trying. The camp system is a pretty fun side thing, the other characters you can swap into fight differently, etc. At hour 100 I adore the game. If you would have told me that at hour 5 then I would have thought you're mental.

I can't pinpoint an exact solution that would fix it, but something about the whole thing just makes me feel like I don't have a desire to complete main story quests to see what happens next, I'd rather just fuck around in the world itself.There's a case where you could argue that this is actually a good thing, because it promotes a more "play your way" kind of thing where you can just explore and do side quests, mini games, world bosses, etc. for the next 100 hours before returning to the main story.

Every piece of armor is something you can upgrade to endgame levels and isn't just vendor trash. Every puzzle gives you abyss artifacts which you need for skills or upgrading gear. Regular chests often have rare resources you need for crafting. Sometimes you find a random quest or a hidden boss. I was exploring the ass end of the map up in the snowy area and ran into a giant ice golem boss on the very edge of the map. I haven't seen it again or its model reused anywhere in 200 hours of playing since.
