Dragon Knights from Warlords Battlecry 3.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozga9fLKGQcAffordable, reliable, strong cavalry unit, with the typical elven high combat skill, high speed and high psychological resistance. And of course, fire resistance. Also, the only melee cavalry unit in the game that can attack fyling units. These guys can be the backbone of your whatever army and you won't regret it.Unless your opponent has lots of piercing/crushing damage, depending on the patch

Siege Elephant. Good at only 2 things: destroying buildings and sniping artillery. That's all I need to let the rest of my army run rampant.Plus it's the only artillery in the game that doesn't need pack and unpack to move and shoot.Age of Mythology's Gastraphetes are a close second. Again, not for what they do on their own but for the support they provide the army.

Why do I hate Age of Empires even though I have never played it? Something about this series simply pushes me off.

>>736873425Only for the story, but the missions themselves aren't anything special.People mald at Starcraft 2, but it is hands down the best RTS mechanic-wise.
>>736879110>but it is hands down the best RTS mechanic-wiseits a snoozefest
>>736879110WoL has a great campaign, but i found HotS to be lacking and never picked up Nova or the protons expansions.Greatest RTS campaign of all time when accounting for everything is Homeworld Cataclysm or Battle for Middle Earth. I forget if 2's is better.
nothing cooler than a glass cannon stealth tank with delicate stealth tech requiring precise subterfuge to cause absurd damage

I liked locking down the enemy wizard with brainiacs from Sacrifice.

>>736883973>>736884721I'm honestly surprised Mircosoft doesn't take a swing at an age of Empires that spans the eras of Colonial, WWI, WWII, and Modern.
>>736884791They already have that.
>>736876121>outdated as fuck gameplayNot true. I'm literally replaying the campaigns right now (in Remastered) and it's perfectly fine. All you'd really have to do is allow multi-selection of buildings, better waypoints and rally points for workers, and larger control groups, and I wouldn't have a single issue with it. Honestly, my biggest complaint by far is how the AI uses its abilities. Put a single toe inside the enemy base and fifty thousand science vessels, queens, high templars, and what have you, run to your location to dump all their energy. Fuck the mission where you have to destroy the new Overmind in particular, because playing against combined zerg-terran forces is such a fucking pain because of all the abilities
>>736886110Name one good reason to keep 12-unit control groups.
>>736886156Even back then it was stupid, but I guess Blizzard wanted people to be able to pick out an injured unit and move it away? I honestly don't know why, but they've publicly said they've had the tech for basically infinite groups since WC2, but always decided against it
>>736886156imagine if you could have a stack of 40 mutalisks
>>736886110Oh, and make abilities fire once per click, regardless of how many units you have selected. I hate having to cycle through my casters to find one with enough energy

I honestly don't know why, but they've publicly said they've had the tech for basically infinite groups since WC2, but always decided against itIt makes sense for WC3 because of the way lower army size but not for SCanyway CnC turbo mogs blizzards RTS games
>>736886426C&C never scratched the same itch for me. The campaigns are less interesting, and they don't have custom games
>>736886226Starcraft has always been about the artificial learning experience. Artificial micro is a necessity to hide real micro and real strategy away from their playerbase.
>>736886565I've never understood that image. You might as well post a comparison between Rainbow Six and Doom, and go "the player can carry enough weapons to put an APC to shame, how unrealistic". They're different games, that deliver different experiences, and as such have different mechanics

>>736852127I don’t know why this opinion is so common Seems like someone got stomped playing melee a few times and gave up
>>736890503NTA but the main problem is how overreliant the gameplay is for heroes and how micro heavy everything it is
>>736882372NEVER and you flagellate yourself for even suggesting such a thing.
>>736886773Amount of weapons doesn't change the way you play. The time to kill for each stays the same. With direct fire physics, it fundamentally changes how the game is played. If you want to believe in objective quality, the more natural and intuitive design is better because realism is what we predict and reward. In this case, more variety:depth is more strategy.

>>736860782Titans were the GDI basic tank unit in Tiberian Sun, they replaced the Predator Tank. Since Tibsun was the futuristic cyber punk game in the series the GDI got even more advanced tech and Nod went full cyborg and lasers, with a dash of alien tech for their air vehicles. Crazy to think that the Scrin were hinted at all the way back in the 90s before we finally see them in CnC3.
>>736891529I am honestly glad the walkers were reduced to a subfaction, dont get me wrong the titans and such are good but you cant replace the mammoth tank
>>736868049The only thing I haven't seen recommended yet that I consider a must play is Company of Heroes 1
>>736891998It's a playable Band of Brothers, because there is no way the campaigns cinematics weren't at least partly inspired by the show. The cinematography for some of the shots are nearly one to one.
>>736892063>The game titled COMPANY OF HEROES is heavily inspired by Band of Brothers! You don't say
>>736892116I won't complain about it, the show was good and the game is good. At least when we still had good media to use as referential material.

>>736844001Rohirrim in LoTR BfMe. I love running over my enemies. Especially after they levelled up a bunch in the campaign.
>>736890503Firstly,I blame the game being too hero focused. They're too powerful. Second, the unit limit is too small for large scale conflicts, and the game is realistically decided rather quickly as a result.
>great healing spell>map control spell>spell to make creeping faster as well as insane dps increases in fightsOnly downside is the ult, but it’s the best support unit in the game.

>>736894078Night Elves will never recover from the kodocock
>>736893384That better be the hero and not the caster unit. The witch doctor was kind of ass as a healer thanks to his one and onlyHeal being at the end of the tech tree, and it was tied to a destructible totem. He’s easily the worst if you want healing, in a faction that has the fewest healing options. Orks suffer for having the beefiest units, you get the worst healing and arguably the worst air game too.
>>736892270It was a joke about how "I served in a company of heroes" is the last thing the real Dick Winters says at the end of the series.
It's more of a building than a unit but I love the guard towers in AoE 2. Really, guard towers in any rts gameThese were my favorite things to build even back when I was 8 years old playing this game. I loved doing defense more than than offense so I loved setting up guard towers everywhere.
