Skells are far stronger than ground combat for 90% of the game, and they can oneshot every superboss except Gradivus just fine, they only fall behind once you start optimizing super hard. For me, its 3=1>2. Being able to swap mid fight is a huge upgrades and I liked the story. I also love the FF5 like job system : while I think there is too many DPS and to few Defenders, I had neverless had fun tinkering my formation around.However, I actually think Xenoblade 1's affinity system was better : being able to loan skills and such made everyone customisable while still keeping them unique. However, the fact that one party member fall off by endgame and the RNG gem system bring it down imo.
