How the fuck did critics give Diablo 3 near perfect scores, and how the hell did this shit sell 30 million copies

You are on autopilot the entire game. There is zero challenge but also no ways to optimize your progress, nearly everything is automated, and the levels are linear as fuck too. And I'm not even talking about ""subjective"" shit like the shitty aesthetics and story, the former things should have already made this game deserve 6/10 scores at best.

original inferno was pretty hard especially act 2
lots of dodging was necessary, autopilot resulted in auto death
>>
it was a different game at release
far from near perfect, but still a whole different game

Current D3 is actually pretty fun as a mindless hack and slash, much better than D4. Its art direction is certainly not fitting for a Diablo game, but other than that it's pretty satisfying and enjoyable.
>>
>>736857876
the higher difficulties used to be fucked up
>>
>>736858709
>>736858015
>>736858832
I gave this game a try 3 times, finishing multiple difficulties just to see if there is anything I missed, now I'm completely convinced everyone who doesn't outright denounce this pile of shit is the most tasteless kind of person possible

>fun as a mindless hack and slash
what the fuck is fun about mashing your skill rotation and moving to the next room for tens of hours.

you jump into D2 you instantly have a dozen shit you can manage to optimize your progress, in D3 there is fucking nothing, it's a ridiculously automated and linear experience, and the best thing people can say about it is that 50+ hours in the final (and now already removed) difficulty finally forced you to position right.

Blizzard completely got away with this braindead slop gameplay with D3's commercial success and because of that D4 only doubled down on it. This shit is utter mobile tier slop that's just designed to keep the lowest common denominator content instead of actually delivering some good ass game design

>what the fuck is fun about mashing blizzard/nova/hammer/etc. and teleporting to the next room for tens of hours
>what the fuck is fun about [the exact description of PoE]
People just like turning their brains off and killing loads of ugly monsters with flashy skills I guess
>>
>>736859851
Yeah because Diablo is a fucking Guitar Hero
>>
>>736857876
Blizzard used to have a good rep so they got tons of free 10s
>>
>>736857876
It wasn’t a fun game. I enjoyed it.
>>
>>736859573
nah , it's preaty fun
D3 has the best ARPG engine and the best combat feeling.
The point isn't to strugle. The point is to kill hords of enemies. There are TONS of games that focus on that and you not getting this means you are a big fat moron.
>>
>>736857876
Diablo 3 sold well because Diablo 2 was that good
>>
>>736859851
in D2 you start a game you instantly have to do exploration, there will be constant situation where you have to choose between interesting and meaningful items, you have to manage your money you can buy bunch of useful shit from, manage your mana/health/potions, customize your stocketed items from the beggining, buy better items that actually give meaningful shit, allocate skillpoints and stats that can have different optimal strategies depending on your current state/loots and is especially fun to figure out blindly, watch out for the many difficulty spike encounters and position yourself right, choose which quests you want to do, horadic cube, runewords, etc.

in D3 there is fucking nothing
it's literally just you move to the next mostly linear room and spam your skill rotation, rinse and repeat. There is nothing extra you can do to play more efficiently
your skills are allocated automatically
your stats are allocated automatically
your mana/hp refills automatically, there is no potion system
your loot is utterly uninteresting and simpllistic and already geared for you, and you are showered with it, very frequently getting small uninteresting +dps/higher stat upgrades
entire item customization system is utterly gutted
there are no difficulty spikes even multiple difficulties in, no need to position, you literally teleport into the enemy stacks and spam your aoe skills, and even if you die from not paying attention because the game is so fucking boring it just throws you a few meters back without penalty

>>736860818
>The point isn't to strugle
you don't have to struggle in D2 either, but the game gives you shittons of RPG fitting options to optimize your playthrough which makes it feel engaging to play

>D3 has the best ARPG engine
there is a reason no fucking one plays D3 anymore while D2 is still popular
what baffles me is how the fuck are there so many people who can kept content for even a while with slop like D3
>>
Can a D2 vet help me out, I'm progressing but feeling semi-stuck in Nightmare. If you are over-leveled for normal, like say level 45 will ilvl 45ish weapons drop in a terrorized zone? Because I'm about done with Act 2 Nightmare and just not getting higher tier base weapon drops. All I need is a weapon in the ilvl 40 range that I can take to Larzuk and have socketed, but this shit is not dropping from either a normal terror zone or nightmare.

at tower level 3 the area starts being 40+ so just clear every floor from 3 onwards if you specifically need lvl 40+

>how the hell did this shit sell 30 million copies
the game catered to WoW players and was advertised on the WoW launcher reaching millions of people every day for months before release and was offered as a aprt of a deal for WoW subs.
Also D2 was a cultural phenomena, like the undisputed best game in the genre and a lot of peoples game of the year/decade.
>>
>>736861926
D2 suprassed D3 numbers only after the remaster.
>>
I remember drop rates being well below abysmal dogshit levels because of the real money auction house.
Though it was funny watching people spend thousands only for the items to be rendered more and more worthless each patch.

something things I remember about Diablo 3

auto gold pickup was an awesome idea
instanced party loot was a good idea
loot goblins was fun
mana and health orbs were nice
it felt really good to play
>>
>>736862938
D2 had better twitch and youtube numbers even before the remaster
also D2 and 4 both got new dlc in the anniversary update while D3 didn't. Noone plays that shit anymore while people kept playing D2 even after 25 years
>>
>>736857876
>You are on autopilot the entire game.

That's how ARPGs work, yes.

its a good game because it actually has diablo in it but it sucks that the writes made himna woman but that just means diablo in diablo 4 will be a gig a mussel chad like he deserves to be
>>
>>736865324
Are we talking players or are we talking streaming? Players it is what I said.
D3 didn't get a DLC because its playerbase was supposed to go to D4.
>>
>>736865595
we never knew concrete player numbers but noone was making content for D3 while bunch of people were still making content and watching shit for D2 despite it being a far older game
>3 didn't get a DLC because its playerbase was supposed to go to D4
what a stupid cope, by that logic D2's playerbase should have also went to D3 and then to D4
>>
>>736865461
Diablo 2 didn't
Hell even PoE2 doesn't
Try playing without following a build guide and see where "autopilot" gets you. Probably starting to be filtered by the King of the mist before getting completely walled by Jamanra
>>
Diablo 3 is the Force Awakens of the series

people only got really fed up with the things that made it dogshit shit by the time it's sequel came out so everyone focused their anger on the sequel while this one was let off easily despite it being the same trash
>>
>>736865490
Rmah was great, I made like $400 in the few months after released and haven't touched the trash game since.
>>
>>736865903
>I made like $400 in the few months
you mean you made blizzbucks you could only spend on like the 5 blizzard games on battlenet
this shit was always a scam
>>
>>736857876
It's weird that I like playing it, but I acknowledge that it's an extremely hollow experience. Slot machine game.

I think the initial reaction to Diablo 3 is because most Diablo 2 players didn't play after v1.10.
The difficulty curve of Inferno was a completely foreign experience compared to how Diablo 2 was before synergies and immunities.
>>
>>736860818
Only if you're STUPID

How to not lose hope in Humanity after seeing shit like this?
Really 75 million what the fuck? What is going on?

>complains about RoS
>compares it to D2
>while describing LoD
You are even dumber than those journos
>>
>>736872732
never thought D3 apologists pretending that RoS ruined the game will be a thing considering how much D3 apologists were shilling that RoS fixed every complaing about D3 when it came out
>>
LoD was the true D2.
>>
>>736857876
You could only truly enjoy diablo 3 at launch, in a way I'm grateful for d3 being ahead of the curve when it came to live service slop because I never fell for it again.
>>
>>736873168
There may be D3 apologists (probably just contrarians), but I'm not one of them. D3 was a midway point between LoD and a "modern" fast-paced ARPG with no noob traps and less timewasting. And since LoDtards weren't happy with it, RoS removed a lot of vestigial systems and made D3 into an actually modern ARPG (for better or worse) that is fun to play and not jsut pull a lever hoping for an enigma, 2 socket Manticore or a decent witching hour. Current RoS and release RoS are not quite as different as D3 and RoS, but it is getting up there, but this is besides the point.

At least it's not Immortal.

>There is zero challenge but also no ways to optimize your progress, nearly everything is automated, and the levels are linear as fuck too.
Bro, that is literally every single Isometric ARPG post D2. It's a braindead cookie clicker genre that shares the same audience as MMO addicts.

Hype for LoH in a few weeks! Will Warlock have any silly one to no button builds
