Out of stupidity and curiosity, I'm playing the SNES version with the War of the Goddess re-write hack and the GBA port. I'm enjoying the rewrite. There's a little more sauce to the dialogue. The original localization version is dry as fuck.

If they ever do a collection, 1 and 2 needs enhancements and features like Starforce got. At the very least, a dash button like the rom hacks. A new translation would be great, but I doubt they would ever commit to that much.
What's the modern way to play Breath of Fire 1 and 2? Is it still available anywhere? Steam port?

>>736860629The only games I want to get a collection are the Romancing SaGa games, because the Steam versions are based on the mobile ports and not all the SNES ROMs have quality fan translation patches. If I can play the originals in my language and there isn't some game-breaking bug that can't easily be patched out I have no need for a $30 ROM collection
I wish Capcom would do a large console collection like SEGA did. They only do segregated genre collections and even then it's only a handful of titles, and even then they split those in volumes. The only times they've done a huge compilation, it's for their arcade titles.

1 and 2 are some of the most barebone, generic fantasy games I think I have ever had the misfortune of playing. The worldbuilding is complete trash due to ass localizations making everything generic, unless the originals are like that too in which case I have to question japan's sense of taste (though they liked dq so I guess that's why).3 and 4 look absolutely beautiful but on the whole the gameplay is still quite generic. It's around suikoden tier.
