Is Space Engine, the game on steam, worth 30 bucks? I had the old free version and it was pretty cool but I never got into it that far.
Definitely. They upgraded the procedural generation massively.
>>736862567>I never got into it that far. That's because its not a game, its a space visualiser. If you like to chill out and just take screenshots of fun space vistas its pretty nice. I think the old free version was better but I can't find it anymore. The new version doesn't produce landscapes as well as the old one did, and it was also easier to make custom planets. Or I'm too retarded to figure out the settings.
>>736862567if you are into astronomy it will be the only 30 bucks you need to spend
>>736862926Universe Sandbox is kinda neat too though
It's still getting active updates and it has free DLC for all the planets in the solar system (plus pluto and the asteroids). Frankly it's underpriced at 30 USD, it's basically a digital telescope.https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/314650The only paid DLC is a 70 buck license that lets you use screenshots for commercial use and record higher-fidelity images and videos.
>>736863032It's kind of limited to the solar system and other preset instances though which is why i am not really interested in it.
>>736862871>the old free version was better but I can't find it anymoreReally? That sucks. I haven't used Space Engine since before it had a price tag, but for a while I think the latest free version was still on the official web site.I wonder if anyone uploaded the last free build to archive.org or something.
>>736863363>commercial use license as DLCThat's pretty funny. Is that common for non-game software on Steam?
Are you on the "Space Engine is horror" or "Space Engine is awe and wonder" side?
>>736863529Yeah I'm talking like 12 years ago or so now, there was one edition where the old versions got wiped off the website after a big content push and the new ones had some different way of generating the planets.
OP here, I bought it. It is absolutely worth the 30 bucks, thank you all.
>>736866973Enjoy, OP, explore the universe.
These are always the most troll and shit-post free threads on /v/.With the exception of Starfield, space games (and software like Space Engine) seem to bring anons together, there's only ever mild shitting on NMS at most.
>>736866973Nice, can you post pics? The last time I used Space Engine was a decade ago, I wonder how it looks now.
>>736862567just play Starfield
>>7368692680/10 bait
>>736870496I mean I enjoy it
>>736871926It has good ship customization but any other space game is better for the feel of exploring the galaxy and seeing new and interesting worlds.
>>736862567>tfw u speed up the camera only to crash into some gas giants core in 0.1 seconds
>>736863996It's both. Going into a black hole actually gives me overwhelming anxiety.
>>736863996i'm more of a space engine is horror kind of guy.space is kinda scary.....
>>736862567its just a universe sim that uses some nasa data if you want an actual universe sandbox game you want X4 or something
>>736867643Perhaps the reason why janny deleted the thread we had up a couple of hours ago
>>736873206Just wait until you try it in VR
>>736862567Yea its fun, even just to zoom around and see other galaxies
>>736863996>Zooming out to see the galaxy, out galaxy is one of countless trillions
