I closed it after one night it's too stressful :(
>>
One of my favorite games. Will it help you to learn it's one of those horror games where you become an absolute master of it and can dominate all adversity?
>>
>open game
>breakable weapons
>dodge button
>close game
shame, atmosphere seemed really cool
>>
>>736866064
Patrol-style house defense rather than cowering in one room is also very fun.
>>
>>736866327
>house defense
With fucking what? You have barely any weapons or items at all and those screeching things rape you on sight.
>>
>>736866274

Not all of them are breakable, only the shitty ones. And the dodge function is like a last resort thing to use in a pinch I never use it. And these are bitch ass pussy reasons to quit a game.
>>
>>736866064
I'm more scared that I just won't know where to find gas and end up in a rape loop of my days being useless time waste because I don't know what to do. Wolf guy said to find him but obviously if I go to far by night I will die. And I saw a guy like eating something if he sees me I only have a nail board. It's too scary.
>>
>>736866696
They are bitch ass pussy reasons to play a game in the first place.
>>
I'm spiritually brown so I got filtered by it super hard

I want to try it again, it looks really cool and something I think I would enjoy if I managed to learn it
>>
>>736866940
The best games are always the ones that filter you a number of times before they finally stick.
>>
>>736866387
Nail board
>>
>>736866702

There is plenty of gas in the game. You shouldn't ever have a problem. And if you're just playing on normal difficulty you just die at night and the only penalty is not gaining any credit to buy stuff from the guy. You're not going to get softlocked. Quit being such a queer and prove your worth, you can beat the game
>>
>>736867027
That was me with Rain World and Shadow of the Colossus. Didn't like either of them the first few tries but once I understood, they became some of my favorite games
>>
>>736866327
Are there actually things you can kill that aren't endless? I was under the assumption that it was like don't starve and darkness/outside = death.
>>
I spent 3 days playing (ingame) and couldn't get a single weapon, then I got one, I used it 2 times and it broke.
>>
>2dshit
It cannot be scary.
>>
>>736867392
Yeah well how is jeff the killer scary even though it's all just words?
>>
>>736867362

You repair it at your workbench... and you are lying, weapons don't break that fast unless you found the weapon somewhere rather than building it yourself and the durability was already heavily degraded.
>>
>>736867552
I found it yeah, I couldn't get enough materials to make literally anything at the workbench, I found like literally 3 planks total in the vicinity of my house.
>>
>>736867169
Rain World was the game that came to mind for me as well, SotC is also obviously great but it didn't filter me the same way. Rain World and Darkwood have ended up being my two favorite video games.
>>
>>736867649

It gets better, the shovel and axe take forever to degrade if I remember right. And some guns are makeshift and limited use but others are permanent, you just need ammo.
>>
>>736868032
I believe you. I don't know, I just felt overwhelmed by how scarce materials felt. I spent minutes traveling to another house, used all the durability of my only weapon to kill dogs and then my reward was literally a single plank.

I'll give it another shot one of these days, when's it's raining hard.
>>
>>736867392
You have a weak imagination

shitter broke on day 1
they were confirmed poop socking it
probably shitshorting it with dipes, to
>>
>>736867027
This is definitely true but I don't understand why. Some of my favorite games of all time I remember hating for the first few hours.
>>
>>736866696
You get guns fairly quickly
>>
>>736868458
It could just be that a game good enough to stick in your mind even when you couldn't stick with it is a sign of something great. What games are the opposite? Like maybe they seem good on the surface but your instinct is just telling you they lack depth
>>
>>736865947
it's literally just a bunch of sounds
the scariest thing in this game is the inventory size
>>
>>736868243

It was probably the burnt house. Pretty sure there's more loot there than that. Might've been a hidden safe under a piece of furniture or something. But gl when you get back to it.
>>
>>736869202

Upgradable. Both your backback is and your active inventory that lets you quickly switch between items.
>>
>>736869225
I guess my hangup with it was I spent more resources than I gathered to just kill some mobs that will just respawn so it felt like a gargantuan waste of time
>>
>>736865947

Just die during the nights, you lose nothing and save resources.

We still don't know the release date nor if it's gonna come out on Playstation

>>736866940
Darkwood is one of those games that it takes time for it click with you, and when it does, you're in for a ride
I did two playthroughs and have 100% the game, and that's still not enough

>>736866274

Do people actually use that?
I never did. I keep forgetting that you can dodge
>>
>>736869129
>What games are the opposite? Like maybe they seem good on the surface but your instinct is just telling you they lack depth
Basically any friendslop games my buddies pressure me to get it. It's like yeah ok this is fun but it's obvious we're not still going to be playing this in a few weeks
>>
>>736865947
The way "normal" difficulty is designed infuriates me.

Can I softlock myself out of resources by just being wasteful/experimenting?

Shotgun to the face
In the dream sequences, I just bait them into to coming closer so I can hit them with the shovel and the axe

I think I did the third hideout for only one night? Said fuck that and just started running back to the first hideout cause it was close enough. I don't want to fight chompers every night.
>>
>>736870474
>Do enemies respawn?
Roaming enemies respawn every time you die, but not those unique to locations. Those stay dead so it's possible to clear a marked area.
>Can I softlock myself out of resources by just being wasteful/experimenting?
No, they're extremely plentiful and you'll likely end up with more than you needed. In the rare case you do not, everything essential can be bought for cheap from traders.
>What are the downsides of dying?
Pretty much none on normal, you just have to run back to grab some of your stuff if you want it back, and you won't get reputation/money if you die at night (but even if you somehow die every single night, which eventually you won't, you can earn enough to buy everything you need anyway by selling random shit).
>At which point should I just restart my save if I fucked up too much?
Depends on what you mean, but I don't think it's possible to truly fuck up beyond recovery. I won't spoil the specifics but you may miss out on content by letting NPCs die, for example. The game can still be completed without them.
>Is there a way to not make night pass faster instead of just alt tabbing and waiting for uninteractable spooky shit to stop?
On normal you can just die, for one, but I wouldn't miss out on the free reputation.
>>
>>736874282
literally none of those play like darkwood
>>
>>736874291
Oddly enough the third one was the one I died the least in. I just kited everything around the hallways. The first two didn't allow as much freedom.
>>
>>736865947
i still really really want an endless survival mode of this game with more monsters and spooky events at night
like it's a super good game and i like the story but i also just really like the dumb furniture pushing mechanics to secure your base and running around a dark forest finding spooky places to scavenge and stuff
>>
>>736874607
I just barricaded myself in the bottom room. For some reason the AI becomes retarded and rarely tries to get into it which saved me a lot of ressources.

I am interested, but I finished Pathologic 2 yesterday so not sure I am ready to give up my peaceful walk in the town after 11 days of pain.

Nigger you HAVE to play house defense in the swamp or in the third hideout, there's no stealthing past them. Even the second hideout can go totally wrong and force you into a slugging match with villagers.
>>
>>736877158
You have to wedge the wardrobe in such a manner that it doesn't move when pushed into, which is very difficult. I say just shack up in a different room.

When the red chompers dash at you, hit them back. That's it. That's their best opening. If you have a long weapon, you can also cheat some smacks in. Just never stand in front of them or directly to the sides.
>>
>>736865947
I shat myself after playing the intro. Closed the game and said to myself that one day I will replay it. That was almost 10 years ago. Still plan to do this; maybe this year.
>>
>>736867392
That's what I said too. It didn't scared me to death, but it did spook me somewhat. 4/5 it will creep you out
>>
>>736878651

In my experience with scary games, you really suck at first and you kinda lose control during tense moments but the more you play them, you get more resilient and desensitized to them the more experience you have. After awhile you're like a psycho who does well under pressure and scary moments and you get a thrill from it. If need be, maybe play something less scary and work up to Darkwood. Not like it's the scariest game ever but it's not pussyshit either. It's so immersive and atmospheric though, such a good game, play it
>>
While I was scrolling youtube and taking a break from the stress of the game I found this playlist and it helped make the nights a little less scary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQE1N38QBys
>>
Anyone ever play this on psychedelics? I'm totally convinced the developers made this game under the influence of shrooms or something. Their name was Acid Wizard Studios so it wouldn't surprise me. The way that alot of things are animated or drawn is just shroom hallucination fuel. You feel like you're becoming one with the woods and are turning into a fungus like so many of the characters in the game that have fungus or mushrooms growing on them.
>>
It's a shame the sequel is going to be shit because they gave it to the Pathologic devs and they refuse to not make it top down 3d slop.
>>
>>736870474
>waiting for uninteractable spooky shit to stop
Nights like that are only early, in time what is still practically tutorial
>What are the downsides of dying?
Dying is mostly time waste and item loss (until you get them back) plus no reputation from surviving. On harder difficulty you have limited lives (you can get few more depending on your choices). On Hardest it's permadeath

Not ragebaiting, serious question; what's the point of Darkwood needing more than one area? After the first Act, you've seen all the game has to offer. You go through so much effort at first only to have to start over in a worse safehouse but nothing else really changes. the game is just to long for its own good.

>>
>>736883106

Enemy variety. By that point, using guns becomes a necessity because of dangerous the enemies have become

The bait and switch with the bridge is what makes the pointless hope impactful. All of the rest of the squadmates are dead, you damn and kill who knows how many on your quest, and you think the MC alone should be immune from the consequences of his actions?
>>
>>736867236
Iirc only a distinct number of enemies spawn each night. It's not infinite waves, it'll be 2-3 dogs and then later a banshee and later 2-3 dogs a banshee and a red zombie or 2. Runs don't take long but you find enough to make it. Also being quiet is an option, enemies do not spawn knowing where you are. They have to patrol and locate you. You can absolutely remain in one room and the less you move the less likely they are to find you. They will attempt to move furniture and traps but if they don't know where you are they'll not always push into that room.
>>
>>736870569
Shovel is always the better option, but one Molotov or shotgun shell does it. Also don't forget to dump pistol ammo in them, it's a useless weapon.

Heh, I've figured it out frogidiotmen. I can simply pull these furnitures to the door and how could you possibly push them at an angle to get in? Both lamps in the room in case one goes out. It seems as though darkwoods has met its match.

You can dislike it if you wish, but the core theme of slavic writing is "everybody is suffering all the time and nothing good ever happens; if something good does happen, something worse will happen to balance it back out". Art imitates life, it is a reflection of their reality. This isn't new, it's been a thing since like before Dostoevsky. A culture and people which are in a constant state of misery will either go extinct, or breed a new kind of human that is somehow content in misery. Eastern Europe has accomplished the latter, though they need copious amounts of distilled alcohol to actually function. This doesn't make them happy, it just makes them not act on the suicidal thoughts as often.

I had better luck just running around the big open room with some bear traps in the doorways to deal with the first couple. Last night the vulture man came and if I was in that tiny room it would have just owned me up the bhole.

that explains why that character only becomes mad after leaving his still behind, lol
and yes I get what you are getting at but It's maddening that they essentially give you a "win the bossfight, still lose in the cutscene" for an ending
>>736897695
only the layout of the map. characters and quests remains the same on each playthrough
