The remake is alright but feels pointless. The original is already a 10/10 so there was no real reason to remake other than making money. The remakes of 2 and 3 completely changed the genre of the originals so it just feels like playing a new game. re4 remake just feels so similar to the original there's no reason for it to exist. 4 didnt even need a graphics update because the hd project exists which looks better than the remake style wise. I'll still replay the remake occasionally but I find myself enjoying the og way more.

There actually is no point to remakes. The only legitimate criticism of older games is that they feel clunky at times. Every time I've gone back and played an old game on a CRT I come away realizing that it looks just as beautiful as I remember it looking. Even in the case of games that I never played as a kid (gran turismo 2) I played that on a CRT and was taken aback by how good looking it was and how much soul it has relative to newer games.So there is no legitimate argument aside from just thinking that the controls feel clunky. In every other way these older games are better than newer games. More soul, better writing, better graphics, better gameplay, sometimes worse QoL movement issues but that's nitpicky

re4make has absurdly sluggish movement and some thigns just do not make sense and can only be found with experimentation that doesn't even make any logical sense. You can easily not know simple things like punches can be parried for an entire playthrough because you are conditioned to see unarmed enemies as more dangerous for close quarters, because you can not parry grabs. So somehow, Leon can parry a punch so hard the enemys arms fly off but if they grab him with an open hand he's totally defenseless. The mechanics don't even make sense half the time, how can he parry a punch but not a grab? How the fuck are you supposed to know he can parry a fucking jab but not the same fucking arm when its grabbing him instead?

My only problem with remake 4 is the movement. In the original, if you stop at point B, you stop at point B. In the remake, you stop at point B, but the character moves slightly a bit further away. It's barely noticable, but it makes the difference on if you got caught in a trap or not if you're going quickly. I literally let go of the forward button and or pressed crouch, but Leon continued walking still for a few microseconds and its like he got caught on purpose.

The difference between Resident Evil 4/5/6 and the modern demakes is that the former actually stand out among third person shooters. 4 redefined the genre. 5 is an excellent coop shooter. Everything in that game is designed around coop. It also has one of the most unique (and the best of its series!) inventory systems. Both 5 and 6 integrate melee combat better than most third person shooters, full stop: 6... are you retards really gonna tell me that it isn't in the same league as games like Vanquish and the like. There very few, AND I REPEAT! very few TPS which are this mechanically deep, and very few games at all that will go this hard in terms of content and sheer scale. Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth is unironically one of the only "good" remakes because the game is so different it's not even pretending to be the same game, even though its totally inferior to the original when it's shit it's shit on its own terms and that's kinda based. Nobody in their right mind would ever argue that FFVIIR is a replacement for the original like they do with the REmakes.
RE4 original had better sound-design, took itself less seriously, was much more cinematic, and overall a more complete package that was a labour of love from the devs. While RE4make might be a tighter game (debatable) it lacked any inspiration or creativity and was just a cashgrab afraid to rattle any cages and played things safe, cheapening the product.

This can only mean the older stuff, the stuff from the era of discovery and innovation, becomes the stuff that's remembered for all time. The remake of 4 isn't perfect, and can be improved, and will be improved and forgotten and discarded. The older one is historical and 50 years from now classic game enthusiasts will still probably want to play it, probably the Gamecube version above even the others.Everyone else will have moved on to other forms of entertainment.

The brilliant move with RE6's control style, meant to fight hordes, would have been to fuse it with Dead Rising while keeping the improvised weaponry and time system. But Capcom is too creatively bankrupt to create EVIL RISING and house the action protagonists into that new franchise.

I have no interest in watching crowbcat or basically anyone in that vein but it does seem fairly intuitive that remakes are most likely less interesting and impactful as whatever they're remaking unless a huge degree of understanding of the original material and talent in enhancing it is in play, neither of which seems really likely to be the case for a video game honestly

Even if it were the case zoomers were playing more old than new games, you would still have to reconcile the difference between old games playtime and shit like fortnite/minecraft which has absurdly high player numbers and has hard demographic data that trends younger on a broad spectrum. Millennials are all over the place compared to zoomers but they don't mass congregate to one game like they do either
