Peach learns she has a long lost sister who is goddess of the cosmos and after freeing her, Peach and Rosalina just stand next to each other and smile. That's it, no tearful reunion, no attempt to catch up and become a family again. Who reacts like that? Mario and Luigi are more enthusiastic about this new family than the actual sisters. This would be like if someone showed up to your door and said you have a secret other family that are leaders of a country and you were next in line to be the ruler, and your response was "oh ok" and went about your day like normal. And the only reason this "twist" works is because they took Rosalina's already established lore and threw it out the window.

He emerges in Octovalley and the mysterious figure introduces themselves as Capn Cuttlefish and the protag is now the newest member of the Squidbeak Splatoon. What we'll get: A generic "Be yourself" plot about a male inkling in high school struggling with the decision to conform or to be a singer. A competition comes up and the grand prize is a chance to perform with the Squid Sisters. Now the protag has to worry about making it to the competition while hiding his passion from his friends and family who expect him to be the next Turf War champ. There is a Turf War scene but it is short and more goofy slapstick than an action packed battle. The only other time the movie is like the game is in the last 15 minutes when DJ Octavio crashes the competition and everything is set up to be like the final battle from the game except the protag confronts him with singing instead where he is joined by his friends and then the Squid Sisters. The heroes win and everyone has a big dance party finale. The end credits scene zooms in on a flyer with the words "NOW OPEN" above a salmonid symbol.
