Leave Smash Ultimate as the last 2D Smash and pull a Forgotten Land. Switching to 3D movement would justify gutting the roster and redoing old characters.

Why not? Why can't the next Smash game have fewer characters? It would free up developer time to work on things like an adventure mode or better online netcode? It could even allow them to bring back customizable moves from Sm4sh. Ultimate's a great game but diminishing returns exists and there are only so many resources that can be invested.

The problem is that they can't do that many characters and maps again in one game unless it's Ultimate DX which would be a disappointment because I want a NEW game. But they always cut characters in every game except Ultimate though. They usually replace them and end up with a bigger roster though overall. Like young link was replaced by toon link and roy was replaced by Ike. Lol.

Sora and Kingdom Hearts is an insult to the medium and gaming as an art form. So Ultimate having Sora in at all makes it complete dogshit as a game and the next game not having him in will make it better. Ultimate is the worst Smash game.

And if you reduce the roster, people will riot. There is absolutely nowhere they can go from Ultimate but down because they can never replicate what they did with Ultimate. They rostered themselves into a corner. I mean, there will be another Smash game, it won't have as big a roster, and it will still sell fucking gangbusters, but people won't be as happy with it.
