If it travels at a slower velocity, no it doesn't. Also, standard revolvers also shot 9mm rounds, they're not even bigger.
>>
>>736880607
the magnums didn't do that much damage in tomb raider
>>
>>736880313
Not really. Mass vs Velocity. Something with less velocity but more mass can do more damage over a larger area. Ideally, you want a balance, but more velocity and less mass can work out if you got a shit ton of speed. Or you can run 10mm and get both, and a SHIT ton of recoil.
>>
>>736880695
They were thinking a weapon that is accurate at range, inaccurate up close and limited ammo. But that is what an awp is.
So instead they should have done the opposite and made that shotgun revolver 'judge' or whatever.

what exactly is the benefit of a revolver compared to a magazine fed pistol?
>>
>>736881789
old good
>>
>>736880313
Highly depends on what it's chambered in. For example an old Webley revolver is roughly comparable to .45 ACP, while a nagant revolver is weaker than 9mm. But when most people think of revolvers they think of .357 magnum and .44 magnum hand cannons which have about double the muzzle energy of 9mm.
>>
>>736881789
Safer. You won't have revolvers accidentally go off with the hammer uncocked. They're also less complex and easier to fix (and won't jam).
>>
>>736880313
Depends. You get some stupidly huge revolvers.
>>
Ackshually the revolver hits harder due to its increased stopping power

Revolvers won't jam if you try to dampen the gun's recoil according to MGS V. Also they are better for larger calibers than magfed pistols.
>>
>>736881789
Less chance of failure. Like, WAY less. They are super simple so they can't fuck up unless YOU fuck up. Like, with a pistol there are any number of things that can go wrong like the spring or lip of the magazine failing, failure to extract or eject, fouling, etc.
That being said, nowadays unless you are terminally retarded a modern pistol won't fail on you, or the failure can be fixed by racking the slider several times. Provided you aren't buying the cheapest, shittier ammo imaginable and do maintenance like once every 3 months you are golden.
Still, there are situations where you CAN'T afford a failure, so revolvers are still a thing. For the very small chance of self defense and recreational shooting (so 99.99% of the times) pistols are perfectly fine.

>normal .45 ACP, standard military loading

Webley is weaker but only by about 20%.

Not having a magazine, but the cons are also not having a magazine and having to manually reload. It's a simpler design too which means exponentially less failure points/chances for misfires. Like if I had to carry a gun on horseback it's going to be a revolver not because it's "cowboy", but because it won't sig saar my leg or horse by bouncing around. They are also more robust in general and can take a beating/rough life better than a gun you have to baby in oil and adjust more often. They can also shoot larger rounds, but the larger they get the more meme/ no use case scenario they become.

>It's a simpler design too
No it's not.
>which means exponentially less failure points/chances for misfires
No, that's completely wrong. It can't have a failure to feed. Instead when a revolver has a failure, it's fucked. Oh your timing is bad? Have fun.
>Like if I had to carry a gun on horseback it's going to be a revolver not because it's "cowboy", but because it won't sig saar my leg or horse by bouncing around
It is no different from carrying a double action pistol, or an uncocked single action.
>They are also more robust in general and can take a beating/rough life better than a gun you have to baby in oil and adjust more often.
This is 1000% false. Get a revolver a little dirty and it fails immediately. It's a clockwork mechanism, it is far more precise and complex than a pistol slide. You don't "adjust" anything at all on a pistol.

Can confirm, went from a 7 incher to a 3 incher, but the caliber remained the same.

I mean how else do you want to do it
There's no point in ever using a revolver in a game when pistols are available. Larger magazine, faster reload. The only way to balance it is damage.

If you're curious about the basic mechanics behind this: All guns need some energy to put the next bullet in position. For revolvers this energy comes from you pressing the trigger with extra force. Modern pistols (and rifles) meanwhile redirect some of the gases that expand when the BANG happens inside the gun, and let that do the work.
This means pistols are built around a certain amount of BANG, whereas revolvers don't care.
So if you somehow end up reducing the BANG, for example to dampen recoil, it's possible that the pistol doesn't have enough excess gasses anymore to load the next round properly.

Which kinda highlights a general advantage with revolvers: The mechanism is very simple, which makes them very robust (tho that rarely matters in normal scenarios).

Goldeneye came first. The magnum could also shoot through more objects compared to pistols. But why is it a "meme" when magnums are pretty much high powered handguns?
Games rarely have standard revolvers unless its a cowboy game.
>>
>>736887437
>Which kinda highlights a general advantage with revolvers: The mechanism is very simple
It is not. The mechanism is much more complex.

With one trigger pull the cylinder must rotate to the exact right position and stop there, the transfer bar must move into position, the hammer must be pulled and then at the break release. This is numerous moving parts all tied integrally together to function. One piece is out of tolerance the whole thing is fucked. Your timing goes out and the cylinder doesn't stop in the right spot, you can't fire.

With a trigger pull on a glock, you are releasing the striker. That's it.

Don't have to deal with long fat grips if you want magnum rounds, and said magnum rounds usually have rimmed casings which suck at being loaded in a magazine. You can still find rimless .357 magnum for revolvers and rimmed 9mm for revolvers but in general they are less common and usually more expensive unless you handload.
