Am I missing something? Why do people talk about this game like it's a disappointment? I'm genuinely enjoying my time so far.

Did you spend $80 for it?
>>
>>736881358
I don't remember. I bought it a few years ago and it's been sitting in my backlog.
>>
Didn't like the vibe. especially during battle. first game to stop feeling like FF to me, and FFXVI obviously being worse.
>>
>>736881298
Because you
a) Didn't have literally 10 years of expectations for it
b) Are playing a patched version with more QoL, content, and probably all the DLC
c) Likely didn't pay full price for it
Image buying it on release, no royal edition story additions, $80 price tag, no DLCs yet, and going into it with 10 years of hype. I can definitely see how people would hate it.

I'm a royalbab myself though so I liked it too.
>>
>>736881474
You should make sure and just give SE $80 to ensure you have the full FFXV experience.
>>
>>736881590
That makes sense.
>>
>>736881298
Day one FF15 on release was actually an early access game disguised as a full release.
>>
>>736881936
Dont care, played Royal Edition and it was road trip kino

As a long time FF fan, the game felt horribly unfinished on release, but they sure as fuck made sure the product placement for cup ramen and whatever the fuck else was done correctly on release. Also, imagine picking up a new numbered FF and the game starts in the middle of the fucking story because you were expected to watch a fucking anime. Ridiculous.
>>
I played a few hours of this on release and it was so shit that i immediately sold it on ebay to at least get some money back

>>
>>736881298
For me it's three things
>rushed plot with clear gaps
>terrible side quests
>driving wasn't fun
I'm also of the opinion that FF should be turn based and real time games should get their own sub series but the combat was alright.

The story is both rushed and disjointed, obviously missing many plots and segments that were not fixed by the DLC scenarios at all.

Weirdly the stuff that should have been in the main game like the Invasion, and the true ending, were made into separate media, while the stuff that was irrelevant to the main story and should have been made into side movies or anime was made into the DLC scenarios instead. They totally fucked up.

The combat is both way too simple, and way too loose. There is no feeling of control over what Noct or any of the other characters are doing, you just press or hold buttons and hope it all works out. Timing on combos is inconsistent and the animations in the game are unpredictable at best, making timing almost completely luck based instead of skill based. This is also due to the random actions of the enemies, a problem that even the devs acknowledged made it less of a game. Which is all for naught, as the game is too easy for it to matter.

Even though you get easy wins, because you didn't really have control over the outcome, it is not satisfying in the least.

Magic may as well be non-existent, as the hand grenades have very little use due to the problems above. Why they did this instead of the multi-tiered function-based KH2 style magic system that was already implemented in Versus, I have no idea. It's one thing to just not make a planned feature to save time or money, but it's another thing to -remove- a feature that was already there. Almost as if out of spite.

In fact, the whole game feels kind of spiteful of itself and the players.
>>
>>736882703
>The combat is both way too simple
It's the opposite, actually. They made the combat too complex for its own good. Watch the video below you'll see someone obsessed enough with this game to figure out how weapon swap combos work and how each type of weapon can flow into a combo together without resetting it. The problem is, you never get a chance to use this knowledge in the game because most enemies come in mobs, so you can never focus on one enemy at a time without getting interrupted and kiss the ground the entire fight.

At least half of these should have been in the vanilla.

>fun combat
What's it like to have no standards? I played for more than 30 hours, trying to milk some bit of fun worth the 5 dollars I spent on the piece of shit that is FFXV, and the combat is anything but fun. It is probably the single worst combat system I've ever had to suffer through in a FF game, even FFXII was better and that game's combat was shit too. Even making use of every party member and synergy, or combo, or whatever the fuck they called it, is mindless, boring, and takes several times longer than it should. Dungeons were also somehow also more boring than even FFXII, and that had some shit dungeons.
>>
>>736882186
>because you were expected to watch a fucking anime.
An anime, a CG movie, and a tie in beat-em up game you could only get by preordering from GameStop.
>>
>>736881298
I love FFXV but purely for vibes and visual design. It's more than the sum of its parts, but we should be realistic about it...
>Fun combat
The combat is an incoherent mess. It's clear that they wanted to do something like the Ff7 remakes but reset production too many times to get it right.
>Pretty good story
This must be bait. Requiring me to watch several hours of supplementary material outside of the game doesn't count.

the open world stuff is amazing for the vibes, character building, broing out cooking dinner etc. but the actual exploration and questing is extremely underbaked, just the same truck stop copy pasted dozens of times basically. and the last third of the game basically being a boss rush is pretty jarring, the pacing feels all wrong
game is still awesome tho

the combat sucks. the only fun part is roaming the world with your crew. the game falls off a cliff once you leave the main area.

How is the ff7 remake by the way? Is it fun? I was thinking about buying it earlier but then I remembered the gameplay in ff7 was boring back when it came out.

You can see in the thread that all the praise for XV comes from its road trip aspect alone. It's such a unique experience that you either love it or hate it. Absolutely no one praises it for its combat anf if they do, they're 100% baiting. That said, if XV had 7R's combat, it would've been a fine game. The story is beyond fixing though. No amount of DLC or patches can fix that shit. It would have to be rewritten entirely from beginning to end.
>>
>>736885216
All the changes they made to the story are for the worse. Tone is also a bit more lighthearted.
Combat is fine. I think it's the best compromise they could have come up with in order to satisfy both the old fans and new people although personally I prefer the original system.
The second game is also way too bloated with filler.
Overall, it was worth it for a nostalgiafag like me because I could see my favorite characters in HD but if you are new to FFVII you should play the original.
>>
>>736885534
I played the original, wasn’t as blown away with it back when it came out as I found Legend of dragoon and ff8 to be better (I didn’t get access to a PlayStation at my home until ff8 was out). The tone was already very light hearted in the original so I don’t’t get how they could have made it more so.

>>
>>736883412
It has plenty of different combat animations. It's simple because they basically do the same thing except one might do more damage. FF15 fails as an action game because fighting with a sword or spear feel the exact same.

The plot is fun but it's not actually a remake. It's a new story. You don't actually need to have played FF7 to understand it.
Combat is ludokino. Undeniably the best Final Fantasy combat ever and the only game to get Action/Turn Based hybrid combat right.
I think it's worth it, but if you're unsure I think the first one goes on sale semi frequently these days so just wait for that.

Worst series I ever played. Sometimes you see .hacks influence in other games like Xrnoblade 2 and FF Origins and it immediately ruins the game for me.
Its tough if I'd use my time machine to kill (rape) pic related to save this board and get Hillary in the whitehouse or kill (rape) the .hack producer. I dont know.
>>
>>736881298
this game is such a duality, you can feel all the soul in this game but somehow you can also feel all the rushed unfinished and poorly designed ideas in it
i loved the game, like one of the bests experiences i had, including the combat, but i would never recommend to anyone because there is objectively better games out there
>>736888262
you didnt fought that big ass snake in the waterfall that was 30+ levels above you

Anons may deny it, but XV had 99% of /v/ enthralled for like 4 years.
>We're here to save Final Fantasy
Was common, and the board whipped itself up into a frenzy proclaiming the game would be a masterpiece before it even released. They set themselves up for disappointment and crashed hard.

>>736881298
I bought 2 collector's editions with the making of DVD the anime and the movie and the Noctis action figure from Square Enix, and I bought the special PS4 that had the deluxe edition, and I pre-ordered from GameStop so that I could get the beatem up game too, and it was the single most disappointing video game in the entire history of video games.

The beatem up and Kingsglaive were the best parts of XV.
