Beat the game this morning and really liked it. Haven't seen any threads on /v/ though.

sometimes it was up its own arse in a kind of self aware way. not sure id it was cringe but some bits were kino, especially the bits with Tony. another weird game that has is both cringe and kino is pic related

I knew basically nothing about it going in, so I was surprised by the midpoint tone shift (though not in an unpleasant way). I kinda wish there were more zones, but given that it's a pretty small game I'm not too disappointed.

The humor was spot on the whole way through though. Had be cackling on multiple occasions

What is this game about
It has an awesome trailer but I don't think I will play
Looks like a game that would have an amazing scary ending

>What is this game about
"Rubato is an experimental, 2D physics-based take on the collect-a-thon genre"

It's about moving forward in life without letting titles or the expectations of others define you. The game plays itself pretty straight as a collectathon early on and then takes a massive pivot about halfway through; wears its MOTHER and Hylics inspirations on its sleeve.

The ending isn't scary, but it is pretty trippy.

Why are independent developers incapable of sincere and unsubversive design?
>>

I don't think "insincere" is a word I'd use to describe Rubato. Gameplay-wise it is very much a collectathon and remains that way barring the occasional minigame shakeup (which all still play with the physics system in some interesting way).

It's just the visuals and narrative that operate unexpectedly

The games that are weird and have a good aesthetic are the ones played by reaction streamers and make a lot of money from that exposure regardless of quality
>>

depends on the devs
for instance some other games that are sincere I've played recently are lovish, claire a la mode and motionrec.

It’s a pretty short game. Finished it in about 7 hours (2ish play sessions)
