In a game whose main goal is to have the player build things, it gate-kept fucking everything: weapons, bows, shields, parts, batteries, basic building blocks, and the most unreasonable part of it all being time to complete a build due to fucking controller inputs when precise movements were needed in order to build your first "thing" of anything. Sure you could save the blueprint for future use, but you could only have so many of them and the parts were severely limited and managing to keep your stock of all of them up was a fucking gigantic pain in the ass. You could only make so many dickswords before it became rote and trite. You could only make so many replicas of gundam/jaegers/metal gear before you ran out of parts. You could only do so many bare-bones little go-karts until you realized you only had 3 wheels left and had to drop whatever you were doing and go and restock. You could only go back to tarry town to unfuse shit so many times before you tore your hair out in frustration.But the most damning thing of all is that you had to all-but beat the entire game to have most of these issues mitigated. Not even solved, but mitigated. Add to that the typical gripes of people who haven't played the game like recycled assets, the same god damned map, durability still being the major issue, heavy advertising of the sky and underworld when both barely even mattered, and being a "sequel" to BotW when there was literally nothing connecting the two beyond Link, Zelda, and a few minor characters that were in both so people could go "I 'MEMBER DAT"It could have been SO MUCH more, but was only a caricature. A broken promise and let-down. Did it have its moments? Sure. But it wasn't worth the investment.

If a game has a giant mech in it and it sucks, the game is unsalvageable. Not only does Minaru suck but it may be the worst mech in any videogame ever. You spend sixty hours to get a customizable robot and it's clunky, slow, and can't even use fused weapons. I'm saying this as an avid lifelong Zelda fan who absolutely loved BOTW and considers it up there as one of the best Zelda's - TOTK was the biggest dissapointments Nintendo has ever churned out. Ignoring the 6 fucking years it took them to cobble this thing together (It could and should have been done in less than 2 based on the product we got), the game was just awful. Anything new was just copy/pasted shit with nothing exciting to see.Hyrule was the exact fucking same, and now boring as shit because after 100's of hours playing BOTW I know it like the back of my hand. This could have been fixed by just keeping Zelda in the present and making Link sleep for thousands of years instead, which would allow a major change in the world. They could have just kept the dragon time travel stuff. You want Purah and Robbie? Have them freeze themselves. The tech exists.The sense of exploration was ruined, thanks to the underground. Spend a loooong time following dim light sources like a fucking moth, mark their location on the land above and there is the Shrine. The sense of wonder and discovery is just... gone.The mechanics simply weren't as good as BOTW's. The vehicle thing was utterly useless once you have the Sail Cloth, the gale ability and horses. I had hopes when getting to Hyrule initially because I thought that would be balanced by ditching the Sail Cloth, but nope the game literally sends you to get it immediately, and you can't choose to not have it because most Shrines actually require it to complete.The only thing it has is a superior starting area. The Great Islands or whatever they're called were very mysterious and full of intrigue (Great plateau was also good, but this was a step up). Monolith and Nintendo essentially rebuilt the entire engine a second time for stability and functionality purposes with the new features, stemming from their advancements on Switch hardware understanding since 2017 and with other games like Splatoon helping along the way. So really, for most of those 6 years TotK was more like a DLC concept that never got to seriously take off until they finalized fucking about with the engine. But because so many assets are copy-pasted and the new stuff is of identical quality level, no one would think that under the hood all that dev time went into restructuring everything. It's just not Zelda for me. Story is weird, mechanics is weird, no memorable music or places, sandbox and building just isn't it. I can understand how it could be fun if you're into that building and crafting stuff (and it is creative), but I'm not into it. Honestly, I played 60 or so hours in BOTW and I thought it was alright but this one didn't appeal to me.
