so back in 2018 during smash ultimate's release cycle, i ended up faking my way into some inside information on the game's roster. i messaged a very prominent leaker some fake info, messing around about the final characters on the roster (ken, incineroar) and the first fighters pass dlc.

i happened to be lucky and got some of the info right and this leaker, who had very loose lips, started to share info with me. i used this info to network with other leakers and ended up with a number of people feeding me info, including a game dev at a relevant company that it's probably best not to name.

anyway, i've seen speculation about a smash ultimate delux possibly coming to switch 2 (this is not a leak, i know nothing post-ultimate) and enough time has passed, so i figured i'd share the leftover info i had from the smash ultimate leak cycle. i'm just going to copy+paste the note in my phone from 6 years ago. this is all informastion that was fed to me by my sources. i doubt most of you will believe this, but have at it.

- Discussions with Capcom and Koie Tecmo for a DLC character
- Edelgard was originally considered for base game, but scrapped for an unknown reason (potentially replaxed by Byleth)
- Chun-Li was considered for base game, but scrapped due to issues implementing a moveset in time for release
- Bethesda was in talks over Dovakhiin, but it never happened (ultimately became a costume)
- DLC negotiations happened in summer of 2018 and onward
- Square Enix had a list of characters shared with employees meant to catch leakers. Geno was on this list
- There was probably something fishy with Porky, but nobody knows what
- A Bandai Namco rep was worked on for DLC but dropped(?)
- Sora was discussed very early on in Ultimate's development
- Plenty of characters were prototyped but ultimately scrapped
- Prototyped characters: Katalina, Dante, Ryu Hayabusa, Lloyd Irving, Yuri Lowell, Melmetal, Heihachi, Sylux, Town character
- Dante & Katalina were furthest along

Idk seems believable to me I guess.

I always assumed Byleth was a reworked Hunter.
As I assumed Duck Hunt was a reworked Banjo before that was a thing.

it's literally the first line

not shocking considering how popular a suggestion he had been for so long. i can't recall, but i think he was very high on the ballot.

This OP is inaccurate. Steve was planned for Smash 3DS/Wii U, but scrapped because the Wii U flopped and the Switch was coming out soon.

i don't actually know anything about this (steve for wii u/3ds), but i do know that alongside hero, steve was one of the worst-kept secrets in the community. if you'll remember, most people didn't want steve so there was a lot of backlash, but it was known well before ultimate's release that there would be smash content of some sort, with it being clear during fighter pass 1's release that it would be steve. i'm not quite sure why it took so long though

minecraft content* (not smash content)
