I hate how much time I spent playing games instead of practicing. I'm really curious how do you anons balance between playing vidya and drawing

>>
here's the scary part
in order to get good at drawing, you need to draw
>>
>>736905168
there's such a thing as aimless scribbling where you don't improve for YEARS(Though you can still build secondary skills like draftsmanship and pencil-grip etc). You eventually hit a point where it's your mindset, where you need to become a person who plans things out and understands the coherent whole of what you mean to depict. This is what true creativity is. Even really good "on the fly" planners get a general sense of what they plan to do, and therefore draw less seeking liines.

>content is locked and inaccessible forever unless you were born with the artistic trait
You need to prove this is true.
Show me literally 1 example of someone who has never drawn before, drawing a masterpiece and you win.

Otherwise, I'll accept your concession now.
>>
>>736904981
I felt that way up until I tried to learn how to draw. Then I suddenly gained a lot more sympathy for people who just inexplicably seemed completely unable to grasp basic things that came naturally to me. After six months of practice, I failed to produce a single drawing where the intended subject was identifiable. I can paint or sculpt, but I have some sort of massive fundamental disconnect with drawing that I don't think any amount of time or effort could fix.
>>
>>736905443
That's where you're wrong.
If you kept working through the hard parts, you'd improve. But you are refusing to, so you won't.

It's literally that simple.
>>
>>736904918
>You might need to learn how to read sheet music though.
To understand the book, you mean?
>>
>>736905379
was the beginner good? I know you might be shy but I can't really give an input without more information. Either way, a powerful piece of advice that another artist gave me that seemed basic at first but keeps coming up is "They can't all be bangers". You won't always output at the quality you want, but it's possible to improve, and you won't always get the reaction you want, but that's OK if you liked what you did. Sometimes, you'll dislike a piece but geta surprisingly nice reaction. In any case social media points are elating, but more of a bellweather to see if people see something that you might not see.
>>
>>736900823

>>
>>736905617
>nearly 30 years old, which means I'm far too old to learn anything new
That only counts for languages, and it doesn't mean it's impossible. It just sticks better when you learn it while being a wee lad.
Protip: You can improve your study efficiency by getting pen and paper and taking notes. No, you don't have to keep them for later. It's the process of taking notes that makes it stick. If you don't, info tends to go in one ear and out the other. Taking notes means you have to think about what you just heard and how to summarize it in an efficient manner. Thinking about it helps moving it from short term memory to long term.

Fun with a Pencil is a good book for this reason, it gives you small simple goals with detailed explanations.
>>
>>736907331
get comfortable holding your pencil, experiment with different grips, where you grip your pencil, and so on. After that, drawabox.com's first few lessons are good ot build a little confidence in your straight lines by giving you something concrete yet simple to work towards. Other than that, draw things you like at least 50% of the time, if they look bad, don't worry, they do.
>>
>>736904180
it's a lot of fun actually

Bargue drills teach you how to see and use proportion landmarks so you can copy the plate exactly how you see them, eventually leading to an intuitive sense of proportion and being able to eyeball measurements in your drawings. They are quite literally an exercise in execution because you're spending time on each plate until you can perfectly copy them.

>MY ART IS GOOD BUT RHE ALGORITHM IGNORES ME
>MY ART IS GOOD BUT RHE ALGORITHM IGNORES ME
>MY ART IS GOOD BUT RHE ALGORITHM IGNORES ME
But honestly no draws and /beg/'s are more annoying, and in particular the whiners who cry about talent or neuroplasticity. I hope they kill themselves. I really do. They are so annoying. I feel like they only want to get good at art just so they can get attention. I think they just want to be popular, you never see them talking about their projects or their art or anything, they just want attention. So yeah, kys.
>>736912743
Do you think DSP actually tries to get good at video games or just plays then? You know in art you have to do studies to get good at it? Do you think if you tell a kid learning math that once he learns how to 5+5 the kid will work their way to recreate the Pythagorean therum? No, you have to study. No amount of doing simple addition will lead you to rediscovering calculus.

Super controversial and boiling hot take here, but I believe that both inherent talent exists and that you can still learn to be an artist without it. "Talented" people simply pick up shit and learn way easier and faster. People who aren't like that can still learn, it's just gonna take longer and with more effort.

You can also try using a different medium if you only draw with a pencil. Nothing humbles you and pushes you to improve like working with ink, even a ballpoint pen is good for that

Yeah, that’s kind of the point. If you want to improve, you have to leave your comfort zone.
With a pencil, you can spend a few hours on a fundamentally bad drawing, while with ink, if it’s bad, it will be immediately obvious.
It’s just more practical to make a few simpler drawings rather than spend all day polishing one turd.

The main issue is that the mouse doesn't have pressure sensitivity. With a drawing pad or tablet the software usually measures how hard you're pressing and adjusts the lines accordingly. Very useful and important for line weight. I wish there was like a plugin or addon that would allow me to use a joystick or something to adjust pressure dynamically while drawing with a mouse. Mouse in right hand and like a controller in left. Maybe I'll vibecobble something together myself.

do you put all the detail into the drawing during chicken scratching? or after? sketches should look as shitty and unfinished as possible, so that when you go to do linework you can fully commit to making the drawing look the way you want it. from experience, doing the drawing in the sketching phase causes an effect where your brain subconsciously incorporates the sketch lines into the final drawing, leading to the final lines looking 'naked' and wrong after erasing the sketch lines.
also, did you use a reference for that pic?

Your answer waa incorrect, like I've explained multiple times.
You picking "both" as an answer to a "yes or no" question proves that true.
You literally are unable to answer the question, you can't have both.
You lose, I win.
Reply again if you're still mad.

Practice works. I've been rapping for like 5 years and can definitely tell a noticeable difference in my flows and rhyme schemes from when I started. Again, something I do for fun because it makes me smile when I write something I think was clever

This is what talentfags fundamentally can't grasp. It only works to a meaningful degree if you have a level of talent. Imagine if after 5 years you were still basically as shit as you were day 1. You would definitely not be having fun and if you say you would you are full of shit.

Maybe next time people will stop trying to "fix" the talent required guy. He's just there to demotivate losers/bait you into trying to prove him wrong. It's the same tactic the /jp/ thread does.

Talent does exist, everyone can draw but talented people progress 6 times as they can naturally grasp the stuff while the rest of us have to grind and study hard to understand.
Everyone can draw, but most of us will try for years to reach a decent level.
>>
>>736900823
What >>736910920 said. I was at it for years and it was nice to get something that resembled my ideas onto paper, but ultimately I just did not enjoy drawing so I had no drive to keep me going like I do for things I'm passionate about. After asking several artists about it, I think that enjoying the process is the most important thing for pursuing art yourself and some people are going to have that while others won't.
>>
>>736919785
You definitely don't need talent, you just need to temper your expectations
