Fighting the dragons with a melee weapon has got to be by far the worst fucking thing ive ever done in the 1000+ video games that I have played. Its been 2 years and I still get fucking PTSD from playing and beating this terrible game that I was memed into to play I swear when /v/ says this game is a masterpiece, its german/polish bots spamming this. I have never played a melee combat system so fucking awful and when I got to the dragons, fighting them was legitimately unfuckingplayable and I had the best melee weapon I could get at this point of the game. When I went to look for guides, there were almost none and the few I saw were either using ranged attacks or glitching the dragons to kill them with melee attacks which is what I ended up doing. After beating them I switched to paladin magic and the game became a braindead cakewalk, even the final dragon boss was piss easyWhat an unplayable mess. I felt like I was playing an Action 52 game when fighting those dragons with melee weapons, easily the worst combat in gaming. I was going fucking insane and wanted to end myself playing this>BUT...THE GAME IS...LE OLDThere are games that had playable and fun dragon fights during 2002 like Kingdom Hearts and Ocarina of Time, there was no excuse. Nobody beat this game with a melee weapon only I am very fucking convinced (and no, showing a combat tutorial against a braindead enemy that ive likely seen wont convince me its playable without ranged)
>>736901373The dragons are a bit janky but you can strafe whenever it's about to breathe fire that knocks you back and run in afterwards. It also helps to have a speed potion on you during these fights, in order to be able to close in on them faster. I think the icy one is the only fucky one. Don't remember having problems with the rest.

>>736901373You are a dumbass if you don't understand that the breath attack is straight up a very slow melee attack that you can backstep. Dragons were a joke in vanilla because their damage potential in close range sucks due to the animation taking a business day to finish(at it is admittedly pure jank), but they got hp regen in the expansion so you need more than a couple hits to kill them.Also scrolls were changed to cost 5 mana each specifically so that you would be able to use them on dragons even as an unga bunga 2h caveman. Just summon a skellington or a golem to tank for you and rape the dragons to death, or use a demon if you really suck. Plus you can also just pay Biff or whatever was his name to double team any dragon.You should realize that just like how you are turbofucked any time there's more than one semi-tough enemy and you NEED stat advantage to win, enemies are subjected to the same. And dragons always show up alone(well, except the ice one, but all the lizardmen will aggro to you before you even reach it anyway).
>>736901373>has got to be by far the worst fucking thing ive ever done in the 1000+ video games that I have playedLook..Im not questioning your claim here mostly because gothic is one of those games that filtered me pretty damn hard just with the 'resources do not respawn but enemies do' mechanic alone but I am curious to know how did you find or manage the chopper boss fight in syphon filter(I am assuming you've played it given your 1k plus games record). I personally feel its the type of fight that just sits dead center on the line between a hard fight and a terribly tedious one, I beat it with shotgun shells by the end of it and just barely.
Isn't all you have to do is to backstep whenever he breathes and then step forward and attack him just like you do with every single monster in the game

>>736904898The respawns happen on chapter change. And they only offer the exp and leather if you went with hunting job. Resources need to be saved or bought but it doesn't really matter all that much because minmaxing to get 200STR is in my opinion silly.
