It's pretty stupid on my part but I couldn't get past the items located in the world all being disappointing. Like you see the glowy thing and you either fight your way to it or find out how to reach it and it's always blood or ammo or some other consumable. I'm not saying the dark souls games didn't have plenty of souls scattered around but there was always the chance in your mind that this would be a cool new weapon or armor set or ring or whatever. dark souls 2 isnt a wholly enjoyably game but it is bad, exceptionally bad compared to other from games, from a design perspective.

-weird directional movement (i think this is still present in scholar)
-shit resolution
-shit framerate

-terrible map/world design

scholar sucks mega ass. also scholar brought with it more bugs, like how weapon degradation was doubled because the frame rate went up. i had to use cheat engine to fix that.

dark souls 2 pros:
-alvas set is fucking goated (ds2 has good armor design, especially compared to ER)

I felt these games were getting bigger and more ambitious until bloodborne, with more intricate interconnected worlds, dark souls 2 tried to do a bigger world than 1, it failed, but it still felt like an adventure to me, bloodborne felt very linear, short and streamlined in comparison, central yharnam and cathedral ward are basically the whole game in my mind and then it falls of a cliff, I didnt even feel the combat was that much improved to warrant it such a focus on action, there was less to find, less to discover, and these were the reasons I loved these game
I also very much dislike they brought back a disconnected hub like des, but unlike des where the nexus felt meningful the hunters dream was just a nuisance I had to go through to level up or to teleport to to other lamps (mind nubingly stupid and backwards design decision after 3 games)

My own experience with souls games (as a pc faggot) is that I watched ds1 when it was a console only game, haven't played ptde at the time because it was a dogshit port, so my first real entry was ds2 pc in 2015.
I personally thought ds2 was dogshit upon completing my first playthrough, and naturally I was confused to why people were sucking the game's dick online. This was my entry to the souls community, and I found out all the postive aspects of the souls series, and fell in love with them.
Then, literally over night, it became cool to shit on ds2
It was so fucking jarring to me because it was the direct opposite of my own experience
So yeah, anyone who says that ds 2 was always hated by everyone is a revisionist faggot

I'm playing BB for the first time on PC and it's great. Yeah I can see why people might prefer DS3, but I not everything requires a strict ranking, they are both good games. On the DLC right now, and the research hall with the big spiral staircase is pure fromKINO. Other highlights were

I don't get Sekirofags. It's literally just a fucking rhythm game. It's not even difficult until the last boss and Demon of Hatred and that's solely because both of those bosses intentionally break the formula and force you to actually dodge their attacks instead of literally just running straight until them and waiting to press parry.
