Yellow arc leans even harder into the aforementioned storytelling traits. GSC arc is a hectic ride and it's a damn shame Mato couldn't go on as the artist.Things kinda start jumping the shark in the gen 3 adaptation arcs. RSE tries to be this super serious epic shonen story but it ends with the most blatant deus ex machina you've ever seen because fuck consequences and sticking with what you wrote, this still has to somewhat fit in with the rest of the Pokemon franchise, and if you start looking at what really transpired more critically it just reeks of bad writing all over. FRLG arc has some odd character moments for guys like Red while doing good shit with others like Giovanni. I liked Emerald arc for what it was, a sort of "everyone is here" culmination with an additional main hero. DPPt is at a point in the franchise where very little adaptation surgery on the game original story is even necessary for it to function as a basic comic plot, so it's thankfully(?) more in line with the general tone than RSE was. timeline wise, red and everyone are pretty much in their 30s at this point. I think Elaine should have been given a LGPE arc even if it was short and featured Yellow. Ever since 2010 the series was always in a rush, starting with Platinum and don't get me started with HGSS.

Honestly, the Yellow arc builds up a ton of mystery, only for it to ebd with a fart. And I feel like this just keeps happening. Also, the author keeps trying to make the villains sympathetic, but it falls flat. Pryce was a dickweed.

At the end, Red and Mewtwo battle Giovanni and Deoxys. Red and Mewtwo are having a really tough time and all of Red's tactics are getting shut down. So what do they do? Red just stops thinking and has Mewtwo do everything on its own. There was no strategy, Mewtwo just wins entirely on its own. And then it tries to spin some nonsense about how "There was no strategy, Red just believed in me. That's how I won." Which ultimately translates to "Red contributed absolutely nothing to this victory and Mewtwo did everything on its own, yet still feels compelled to praise Red." He also did this weird thing where he gave each Pokedex Holder a "special trait", and while you can kinda see where he was going with Red via a genuine talent that he properly cultivated and nurtured, others like with Yellow and Gold are just straight up superpowers. Any egg Gold touches just ends up producing better Pokemon. That's not a talent, that's just magic. For some reason, the OCs are the biggest mary sues of all. Yellow, as already stated, has literal magic powers. Emerald is just automatically loved by legendary Pokemon. That's what makes him special. Also, the characters just increasingly devolve more and more into caricatures who are heavily defined by little more than sheer autism. I'd say it was probably starting from around the DPPt chapter where this trend really kicks into overdrive. Personal conflicts more or less amount to the characters' autism catching up to them and them needed to get over it. Every main character has this one extraordinarily severe character flaw that absolutely defines them and every single action they take which they eventually have to deal with.
