Not a good open world.
>>

Why?
>>

What's a good open world in your opinion

None. It’s a shit level design gimmick designed for goyim.

I think it's a good open world. shitty story but a good world.

If it is a map with edges that have ending , it is not an open world.

Correct, Its a perfect open world
>>
>>736914965
our planet earth is contained in a globe. it may not have edges but it's a world.
>>
I thought it was a pretty good open world. Needed just a tad more ways to get to areas in any order, and Liurnia sucked, but other than that I liked it.
>>

crazy

Open world can't be good.

>people start complaining about videogames being bloated to the bone and plagued by empty open worlds and repetitive content, citing those as the reason for Ubislop's failures
>japanese franchise switches from linear corridors to empty open world and copypasted dungeons
>it's hailed as one of the best games ever made and becomes a huge hit + a cultural phenomenon
how the fuck do you explain this shit
>>
it's no different than the real world. you still need keys (passports) to travel to new places

Not an open world if its handheld where you can go in a linear fashion; Its just Pokémon Emerald tier "open world." If the routes are blocked and unlocked in Castlevania style exploration format.

nobody cares about the tombs

So many games would go from 6/10 to an 8/10 if they were not open world
>>
>>736915361
Am I the only one that enjoys ubisofts open worlds? The AC renditions of ancient cities are well crafted and FC5 had a good depiction of Montana
RPG Level restrictions on zones blocked by grind are the real problem, not the open world imo
>>
>>736915430
they're the core part of the game like it or not
>>736915401
>RDR2 is not open world because you don't unlock the map until chapter 2
>GTA V is not open world because you don't unlock the map until after the prologue
Castlevania format = going in a single direction up until you unlock a different path btw.
>>736915537
It's mostly empty save for the overworld fights (boat guy, dragons and the horseback night guy) and caravans and the dungeons mostly play out in the exact same way, very few of them have puzzles or invisible walls.. about 5-6 of them in the base game I reckon.
>>
>>736915727

I played the game nigga.
The open world is unrewarding and 9/10 of the hidden nooks and crannies had no reward and the other 1/10 is like a rowa fruit or something.
The open world is just there to waste your time and bload the TTB (time to beat).

I dropped it after Academy of Raya Lucaria, because I knew it would be another 10-20 hours of open world slop, until the next piece of content (legacy dungeon) of similar quality.

Open world games just need to go back to more content dense and meaningful map design.
>>
>>736915867
>>736915909
There's more than 50 'tombs' (dungeons) in the base game, they house 1/3 of the bosses and many of the valuable items, summon upgrades etc. Them being optional doesn't cut it, they're the main source of your runes and upgrade stones early on, only a speedrun maniac thinks otherwise.
They aren't bad, but it makes me wonder how people excuse chalice dungeons V2 while piling on other open worlds for boring Far Cry outposts. Enter, (sometimes) find the lever, kill the guy, open a chest, repeat. 50 times.
>>
>>736916361

NTA, but the game is stupidly stingy with upgrade mats. So finding a new weapon isn't that exciting when you know you'll have to go farm smithing stones just to make it usable. Also ER's fashion is ass.
>>
>>736916718

Making the world big with long distances and empty space between points of interest just so the player can be given a mount to traverse those distances is fucking cancer. In case of Elden Ring it's just an artistic decision but in other games like Diablo IV you know it's just a fucking ploy, shoehorning in a tedious pointless mechanic so they can sell mount skins in the shop. Fuck off with this shit
>>
>>736914374
Because you don’t know what open world means.

You think open world is linear.

This one has natural delineation via harder mobs. It teaches you your boundaries because of the difficulty of certain areas, or you learn to overcome those areas.

It’s a pretty good open world. Dickhead
>>
I have no issue with copypasted content, butchered quests or lack of towns. The biggest issue with ER world is that the exploration is absolutely unrewarding, the worst sin an open world can commit. 99% of shit you get for beating dungeons is worthless trash. They are not even worth doing for runes because of how hard the inflation hits in later levels. This is the reason why games have monetary currency and random gear. They did this right in bloodborne with gem farming but somehow couldnt do this for their biggest game ever? Miyuazaki is such a fucking hack
>>
>waahh there's too much walking between places
Journeying across vast territories is an integral part of an adventure. ER does it right.
>>
>>736918406
They are a good source of upgrade mats because of the flowers and stone imps drop smithing stones prettu frequently but that still means you only need to do one or two per area on the map
>>
>>736916648
Same, except the academy.
Dark Souls will remain the peak of the series.
>>
>>736918704
>using summons
really nigger
>stones
you get more than enough from just clearing mines. Or you can just simply fucking buy them nullifying any need for farming

you do all these shitty dungeons on your first playthrough because you are clueless. On consecutive playthroughs you skip 90% of world, which begs the question why is this shit open world in the first place

>>
>>736914374
Agreed. There's no point of an open world when you're going for low interactivity and the game world isn't even alive. If they made an entire game set in a fantasy megacity like Anor Londo that was dense and detailed it would have been far more impactful.
