Capcom recognized their audience was retarded by 1998 when RE2 came along. They've been implementing these findings ever since.
>>
>>736917196
The zap system is certified high IQ though
>>
why isn't there an option when you start the game
>Are you retarded?
>Yes / No
it can control these tutorial popups and also the weird children's book that says to stay in the light and has barely any in universe reason to exist
>>
A tutorial like this shows up when Grace gets the acid for the Lickers that literally says "use these to instantly kill the Lickers please" and I felt like Capcom was taking the piss
>>
If the glass doesn't look repaired with yellow tape how the fuck are players suppose to know?
>>
>>736915327
They could don't by a small animation

I'm a teacher. Devs are going to need to quadruple their retard proofing efforts. Context hints, not a chance. Text tutorials will also be useless as they are barely capable of reading. Even a video of exactly what to do won't make it through to most of them. They will need simplistic drawings like in Nintendo manuals telling you not to pour water on the console.
>>
text pop ups are crutches
no one likes tutorials
teach your players through play
>>
>>736917964
Because the average retard will still choose to disable the tutorials, get stuck, and then blame the game for not explaining what to do.
>>
>>736917964
Speaking of being retarded
>get stuck in very first area of Graces section with the wired shut door
>keep walking around the area back and forth looking for bolt cutters, scissors or pliyers
>do so for 10 minutes, all the meanwhile questioning myself im genuinely retarded for being filtered
>look up a video, bolt cutters were on the table, that i directly looked at multiple times with no interaction prompt button appearing
>turns out it was glitched and i just couldnt interact with the cutters at all, softlocking me
Thanks Capcom
>>
>>736918314
i'm actually amazed that we don't already have a plethora of tutorials that look like the dashboard lights of a car. just pictographic bullshit conveying the intended knowledge in as few colors and shapes as possible.

even 20 years ago i had friends skipping basic tutorials and short cutscenes and complaining that they had no idea what to do
>>
>>736918314
Babying them is what got us here in the first place
Either make it the correct way or get left behind
>>
>>736917964
>>736918383
Games need to tell you about their features because often gamers will think game logic applies. If the game doesn't say you can break glass, gamers are conditioned not to try it.
>>
>>736918084
normalfags are retarded beyond belief. DSP is the target demographic game devs aim for
>>
>>736915327
Can you apply some yellow paint around the glass so I know what to shoot
>>
>>736915327
What I don't get is, why not keep these hints exclusive to the easier difficulties?
Game already has an option designed for people who enjoy the classic style of RE games, why not just have it disabled for that difficulty?
>>
>>736918314
No, what games need is a dedicated tutorial level that shows them all the quirks in the gameplay, then set them loose.

Deus Ex and Half Life did this to great affect.
>>
>>736918515
'Game logic' has meant that glass is typically breakable for decades. I can't imagine anyone seeing a level that is set on glass floor panels and not immediately trying to shoot the glass beneath an enemy.
>>
>>736918515
>>736918753
You can tell this diagetically by having a zombie attack a BSAA survivor and him shooting the glass to kill one before being attacked from behind to fall to his death, a pop-up taking the gameplay away from you is lazy.
>>
I'm very embarrased to say i got stuck for like 5 mins at this segment because i thought shooting the glass under the pillar would softlock me when it was in fact the solution
>>
>>736918753
In any case, the way to teach the player about it isn't a tutorial screen. It's showing the player that glass breaks when shot. Like with scripted animation of some guard's p320 going off in its holster and breaking the glass beneath him. Something like that is shown to the player when they first enter the glass zone.
>>
>>736918885
You don't even need that. What they have directly before the prompt is enough.
2 zombies and an explosive barrel. You shoot the barrel and the glass breaks. Boom, now you know glass is breakable.
>>
>>736918383
>Because the average retard will still choose to disable the tutorials, get stuck, and then blame the game for not explaining what to do.
Then let them bumble around confused and retarded until they either figure it the fuck out or complain about it, looking like a massive retard and entertaining everyone else.
>>
>>736915327
30 years ago you would have that explained in the instruction booklet as well as 10 pages giving details about the world and characters and it would have been fucking great.
>>
>>736919091
Understand that the way our world works, people do not get to continue to make things if they don't cater to retards.
>>
>>736918515
>>736918515
>>736918753
Ehh, the problem is often with game developers adding in mechanics at the end of a game and not retroactively hinting or adding it earlier in the story. It creates inconsistency.

Every modern re are exclusively made for retards though
>>
>shoot enemy
>it dies
I love how the game didn't have to explain this to the player, just by playing the game the player is able to interact with the diegetic systems that are a part of the game world and thoroughly immerse themselves in the world the game has built for the player in the game for the player. Capcom knew that the player would interact with the game as a player would and instead of treating the player as a player they treat the player as a character that the player is playing in the world.

Hints like this need to exist because video games are inconsistent. How many unbreakable windows do you go through until this point? If this is the only place they actually break, then you need to tell the player.

most people would do no and fail on everything.
>>
>>736921372
You know what I do that puts me above 95% of gamers? When I play a game I try stuff out, I press various buttons in the start and see what they do. I also developed this "6th sense" called gamefeel where I can determine if I will instantly die by jumping down somewhere or not. It's amazing really, I feel sorry for all the plebs that are so far beneath me
>>
>>736915327
I stood on the glass, and shot the panel I was standing on. Why, because I just wanted to enjoy the ride.
>>
>>736921372
they told you diagetically by having the glass crack under your feet when you first slide down into the area.
>>
>>736915327
modern games are just a joke and if you defend them your brain is probably completely rotten because of modern game design and social media
in the past you wouldnt get such a lazy popup but the game itself would just show you its possible
like the first time you enter an area with breakable floors maybe some debris falls down destroying the floor and your monkey brain would activate neurons and you would think "maybe grog can destroy floor" and you try it and bam you learned a new mechanic that could be used for the remainder of the game
>>
>>736921731
>95% of gamers
You're not wrong. The vast majority of people just want to know what the next objective is.
You know what's the worst thing about playing co-op games? Not being able to read any lore, talk to NPCs or even read the quests description. You know why.
>>
>>736921372
please stop ruining our circlejerk
>>
People like to pretend they're too smart for yellow paint but the moment you remove it, they get mad about not knowing where to go. Everyone that complained about yellow paint in ff7 rebirth got real quiet when they got to gongaga.
>>
>>736922108
You can telegraph where to go or other points of interest without yellow paint.
>>
>>736915327
Remember when the leaker still failed
>>
>>736915327
It's even worse since there's an autosave there, so there's absolutely no risk.
>>
>Wait a minute, that loading screen tip...
>>
>>736922108
I downloaded the RE4R yellow bs removal mod for my first playthrough and didn't miss a single item. It is retarded and the majority of games don't use it, that's why this criticism exists for RE to begin with, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

When you have to locate an important, story progression item in a video game, that item should just sparkle with bright gold the same way new weapons and story items do in Bioshock.
>>
>>736922223
Global IQ average is plummeting.
Methods that worked 20 years ago no longer apply to the average player.
>>
>>736921372
It's only inconsistent because you have hack developers like Obsidian who need Bethesda to hold their hand or they won't have any physics, any interactive objects, any pathing, or any AI.

TUROTIAL: DON'T SHOOT ASHLEY. IF YOU SHOOT ASHLEY, SHE WILL DIE!
>>
>>736921478
I kinda want to see a game do that.
Only make it so it also jacks the difficulty way up and starts dropping mountains of bullshit on the player.
Every third time the player dies hit them with "you can enable the retard setting at any time in the options menu".
Give it a good year before you admit to anything and just watch Tarkov tier shiteaters crawl out of the woodwork to defend it like "NUH-UH, YOU'RE JUST RETARDED AND BAD".
I genuinely love the idea of gaslighting the player in ways that cause ripple effects in the community around any given game.

>>
>>736918383
This. People who are bad at video games always pick the hardest options, then get confused and frustrated as they die repeatedly, and drop the game.

The difficulty/tutorial options have to be something you unlock by demonstrating intelligence and mastery. Make them hidden secrets you unlock early on by experimenting and showing you're not an NPC. This way retards won't be able to access them.
