A console generation lasts maybe 6 years, which is also coincidentally about as much time as it takes to make a modern AAA game (They actually usually take more time than that now). Meaning a studio will probably only be able to make a -SINGLE GAME- for a modern console. Given the miss rate on games in general, there is just a good chance that by the end of a console generation, a console will literally not have a single exclusive worth playing. Nintendo can arguably get away with it because they are still making games with lower overall fidelity, so they can make them quicker, but I don't know how much longer that is gonna last.
