Demon's souls got played up since it was one of the few PS3 exclusives. once the same thing finally was available to everyone, people who grew up on call of duty and bahman met a modicum of difficulty so they lauded it as the most difficult game of all time. Right time, right place

Because it was the first souls game that most people played, and it was responsible for defining an entire genre. Just in case someone is stupid enough not to understand it: defining =/= creating.
