Origins did just enough to make your character feel like their own person that really lives in this world while simultaneously making them feel like an effective self-insert. This makes it much more immersive and makes the narrative way more impactful because it makes you feel like your character as much as it makes your character feel like an extension of you, so you feel really involved in every narrative choice and impact and it’s more memorable as a result. By BG3 act 3 I was just fuckin around and doing shit on a whim and had zero investment in any of the story because it felt so disconnected from my character.
