WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL the survivor AI is just as bad as I remembered it being.
>>
I only learned a few weeks ago that pressing Y to call the survivors actually doubles as a command to kill the nearest zombie if one is close enough. So spamming the Y button does more harm than good since it often causes them to keep stuttering and start pushing random zombies.
>>
I'm tempted to buy Deluxe Remaster at a deep discount for the fixed survivor A.I but everything else is worse so I can't be bothered.
>>
>>736940361
i just placed a waypoint at the exit and helped them through
>>
>>736940408
That's the best practice, either send them to a waypoint so far away that zombie AI will ignore them or to just slowly escort them by killing every zombie in the way yourself. Rushing past in large groups will always have some survivors getting turned around on each other and getting grabbed by a zombie.

>Aim at the area exit you want to actually travel to
>Press Y or Triangle
>All survivors are now twice as effecient and hyper dedicated to going to that exact spot
>Brining a survivor home is now more like a scripted escort mission where you pick the finish line

This cuts the difficulty of the game clean in half by the way

someone give it to me straight
I pick this game up once every few years and just run around killing zombies and just generally fucking off, I've never once attempted to actually beat the game, I mess around for an hour or so then die and new game+ then save the game
now I have been gaining a bunch of levels doing this, should I just give a full playthrough a try already? will it be pretty easy since I unintentionally grinded?
>>
>>736941452
Honestly that's what I did. Found the first run too hard. Leveled up like crazy and had a lot better time on what felt like an easier difficulty.
>>
>>736941452
You could always restart from level 1 if you wanted but the game is designed for players to fuck around and mess up by letting you maintain your level after death or after getting a worse ending than the true ending. You can actually get the 50 survivors saved achievement by failing the main story cases in a specific way at a certain time so that all the main characters are grouped in the safe room and they end up surviving until the 72 hours is up, escaping with you in the helicopter.

Have fun messing around and replaying the game. Just go with the flow.
>>
>>736941452
That's intended though I think the best way to experience the game for the first time is a mad scramble to do as much as you can while under pressure from the time limit, prioritizing the story missions. You'll miss stuff, fail scoops, have survivors die on you, and cut time limits way too close but that's how the game was designed.
Or you can kill Adam as soon as possible then invoke "The Strategy™" to blow the game apart before it even begins. That's what I typically do because I'm a bitch.
>>
>>736941452
>will it be pretty easy since I unintentionally grinded?
that's the point. dead rising a basic roguelike disguised as a zombie game.

The survivor AI wasn't broken, retard. They're exactly as stupid and clumsy as most average people would be in a situation as fucked up and hopeless as they were in.
2's developers overreacted to some peoples' complaints and made them too capable. You don't have to watch over anyone at all.

As annoying as it is, I found it weirdly charming and fitting for the setting.

Just imagine how retarded and unreasonable people would be during a zombie outbreak in real life.
>>
>>736943636
While they were obviously smarter in 2, I still felt I had to pay attention to prevent them from getting surrounded and stunlocked, especially when escorting large groups and/or past unique enemies like the Fortune Park psychos (Leon, Snipers) or Gas Zombies[/spoilers].
>>
>>736940361
I'm surprised no one has actually gone through the specifics of the fact that Y isn't just a call button and gives out different commands based on what kind of obstacle is between them and Frank.
>>
>>736940192
Well, now I feel like replaying the game. I only ever beat it normally, guess I'll try a run where I save everybody or kill all the psychos

>They used to laugh at me
>But not anymore
I love how the evil clown trope is thrown on it's head with Adam. It's not him lashing out as the world for seeing him as a clown, it's him breaking because there is no one left to laugh at him. I swear I've heard that exact line before with the opposite intention.
Then you have Steven whose entire life is his work, the little detail of his nametag having him much younger and with a full head of hair is great. During his dying cutscene he mourns the customers he can't serve anymore with the wide shot from the security camera showing only him hugging a cash register in an empty store.

The psychopaths in DR1 are written so fucking well, character writing is a huge strong suit for Dead Rising. Even the voice delivery for the entire cast, the little mannerisms you catch in the cutscene animations, the cinematography of the cutscenes, exceptional shit especially for the game where you can dress in toddler clothes and suplex zombies.
>>
>>736946179
The psychopaths in DR1 felt like real people who were driven to insanity while all that came afterwards felt like insane people using the zombies as an excuse to act more insane.
>>
>>736940192
Remember to cap your frame rate to at least 60 because higher frame rates cause enemies to be more aggressive and do more damage
>>
>>736946179
Some of the "psychopaths" i wish i could save them
Like everyone is a normal person outside of extreme situations
>>
>>736948374
You can with Paul when he asks you to not share any evidence of what he did in exchange for molotovs, and Kent shows the opposite where a potential survivor turns into a psychopath.
>>
>>736946515
That's why I never enjoyed DR2 that much.
Again with Adam, he's the higher end of the psycho spectrum in DR1 but there still is a sense of humanity, he's twisted not batshit insane. There is a method to the madness, he keeps the roller coaster on to keep zombies away and the "people" on it safe from them. The "people" on the ride being children dolls is such a good piece of subtle storytelling too as to what made him snap. The happy clown in the mall play place sees a bunch of children get killed and sinks into a delusion, it's great.

>The psychopaths in DR1 felt like real people who were driven to insanity while all that came afterwards felt like insane people using the zombies as an excuse to act more insane
Sean, The Hall Family, Jo, and Brock are proof the Psychopath roster has always been being an even split of good/decent people who snapped and pure evil fuckers.

What’s really unforgivable is the Psychopaths in 3 all being bland cartoonish caricatures, and completely non-existent in 4.

I always like how the tragedy is played straight in this game. When you have so many goofy gameplay elements, its easy to act all tongue-in-cheek about the traumatic things that happen to the survivors and psychopaths but im glad they didnt go that route

>kill the convicts
>go inside
>come outside later
>*ominous guitar riff*
I still remember the way my brain just popped right then and there. I was already losing my marbles over everything else happening in the game, from the infuriating survivor AI to the stressfull in-game clock.
For them to have the gall to just fucking magically revive the convicts for no goddamn reason is the funniest goddamn shit ever. A truly maddening decision.

This game is an absolute 10/10 experience. I felt like the main character in a David Lynch movie who was losing his mind.
>>
I really wished Capcom ported the first 3 games on the Switch in its first years. It could've done better that DR4 at least.
But anyway, DR1 is still the most detailed game in the franchise and I hate the changes DRDR did to "modernize" it.
>>
>>736949065
There's one or two times where the marked and unmarked survivors really don't give you any time to mess up, but really if you take the Wonderland->Paradise shortcut and don't be afraid of the park and convicts you should be fine as long as you are a high enough level.
>>
>>736942456
>Or you can kill Adam as soon as possible then invoke "The Strategy™" to blow the game apart before it even begins. That's what I typically do because I'm a bitch.
I thought the “Strategy” was grabbing two mannequin torsos from the first room outside the elevator every time you leave, and proceeding to obliterate everything because they swing almost as fast as the chainsaw and they do like 4 times as much damage then they’re meant to for some reason.
>>
>>736949274
Triple magazine-ing the mini chainsaw gives you like 3000 hits or some silly bullshit like that and it pretty much kills everything in the game within 4 hits.

Keep in mind even with this it’ll still be down to wire a lot of the time, but I found this really helpful when I replayed the game and did what you’re doing.
>>
>>736949274
I believe the mannequins do so much damage because they can break into multiple weapons so when its a full mannequin it calculates each limb damage at once.
>>
>>736949412
Obviously Mini-Chainsaw + Magazines is the meta, the torsos are just a nice early alternative for conking shit that additionally requires no investment.

You are just asking for the RE team and by god, Capcom should just make it in-house and not delegating it to a western dev.

So how much of off the record is canon the main timeline? frank and chuck meetup for apparently the first time at the end of chuck B ending, frank was apparently from the start of the outbreak in fortuna city and meet the snow bunny reporter but she dies during chcuk main story near the end, also the red head is the main villain in frnak story but escapes with katey during chuck story.
>>
I can still hear the voice of some guy talking about how you shouldn't actually follow the waypoint arrow in a DR playthrough video from 2009 I watched as a kid.
>>
>>736952616
Frank was likely holed up in some sort of makeshift safehouse because he didn’t make it to the real one.

It’s fun to imagine any survivors/Psychopaths Chuck missed were rescued/dealt with by Frank instead like he does in OTR.
>>
>>736952616
>So how much of off the record is canon the main timeline?
Around like 90%? Of course OTR isn't canon to DR3 and DR4. There are two main timelines:
1) DR1 - Case Zero - DR2 - Case West - DR3 - DR4
2) DR1 - Case Zero - OTR
>>
>>736952394
>I get they made 7 and Requiem
Must be a leadership issue, since those two games share the same director, who also helmed the first Revelations.
>>
>>736940834
The best way to unstick survivors being dumb is to run into them to nudge them where they need to go. Failing that, set waypoints to navigate them around the obstacle.

Or if the obstacle is a thing, like the flower pots outside of the door into the service hall toward the safe room, break that shit.
