was it good?
>>736941703Yeah, so long as you can tolerate unbelievably slow-paced games with cutscenes so long that there are save points in the middle of them.
Yeah it is. You will hate it if you have low tolerance of terrible English voice acting (there are probably undub version now but those didn't exist when I played them) and long cutscenes. It is kino though.
Not really, no. At the time, the idea that it was a playable anime that was so big it needed multiple volumes to tell its story was novel, and the production values were a cut above anything not named Final Fantasy. But the battle system in the first game was nothing special and was changed for the worse in the second, and the story was incredibly plodding, mostly told through cheap shot/reverse shot without even any background music. And to top it all off, the whole project was cut short so while the third game was good enough to KINDA stick the landing, a lot of people never made it that far.Worth a look if you're a huge Xeno fan who wants to see Tetsuya Takahashi's awkward transitory years between Square and Monolith, but on its own merits it doesn't have much to offer.
>>736941703I wish they made the cutscenes in-engine. Could have saved us a disc or two and would look so SHIT
>>736942149I think a lot of what you are saying here are unfair to hold against the game and say it's not good based on it.The battle system being nothing special...so what? Why does it need to be special? It's your standard turn based JRPG battle system, it does it job, what more do you need? It's like saying Dragon Quest is bad because the battle system is nothing special. That would sound insanity. It sounds the same insanity here. Yes, the project was cut short, but only the second game was the one that truly suffered from it, and that is indeed a weaker part of the series. You yourself even admit they did a pretty good job tieing it up in the 3rd entry despite the odds.
>>736941703>Space sci-if>Space horror>Space dramaHonestly hits every right note with me. Hate how rare space themes are in Japanese games.
>>736942547I say it's "nothing special" because I didn't like it at all, but since I haven't played it in 20 years I don't think it'd be fair to shit all over it if it's possible I've forgotten key details. All I really remember is going through the entire game spamming Storm Waltz and X-Buster because I somehow managed to remove any cost from using them. I was bored to tears for the whole first volume. And then in the second volume there was some kind of break gauge and character combo system which I remember being fine in boss fights but made random battles take way too long. Thoroughly did not enjoy fighting in either of those two. But I'm willing to accept that could have been a "dipshit teenage me problem" so I was trying to be polite.
>>736941703Good movie
>>736941703>was Still is champ.
>>736941889Pretty much this. It suffered from initially being slated for 6(?) games and then being shortened down to 3.
>>736941703No, and I like boring games with long cutscenes. Albedo is the only redeeming factor of the entire trilogy. The first game is boring with a simplistic battle system, the second game is dog shit with an incomprehensible battle system and the third is a pretty middle-of-the-road jarpig (and still the best of the three as a result). I wouldn't recommend wasting your time playing them, but they're also not that long. The entire trilogy can be beaten in ~90 hours or so, with the second game being particularly (and mercifully) short at around 20 hours.
>>736943070>And then in the second volume there was some kind of break gauge and character combo system which I remember being fine in boss fights but made random battles take way too long. The trick to 2's system is that you want to combo in random encounters with boost, not just stocking up all the way. Additionally it matters a lot what elements your attacks are, so you want to switch out characters pretty often depending on the enemy or at least use your buff spells to element combo. Toward the end of the game enemies start to get pretty tanky anyways but the first half of the game is fine.
>>736941703Nah. XS3 is decent, but it's not worth the two crappy games that precede it.
honestly no.But I love the game anyway. sucks that we never got episode 4.

>>736941703Niggas that use the term movie-game would implode from this
>>736944917Isn't there a cutscene that last like 40 minutes and they actually let you save midway through it?
>>736944917we talked about this a billion times already, the problem with movie-games isn't the amount of cut scenes they have but the way they try to mix the gameplay with movies.
>>736941703I only played part 1 waaaaaaaaay back in the day, would love to play the whole trilogy, is there any way to play it on PC illegally?
>>736941703If you like existential and religion themes, then it's good. The story on surface is shallow and straight forward. But the themes are deep. The gameplay is ok. If KOS-MOS isn't your waifu, you probably won't enjoy it.
>>736945451PS2 emulation has been a thing for longer than a lot of people who visit this board have been alive. I played through the first Xenosaga back in 2009 via PCSX2 shortly after building my first custom gaming PC. These days even phones can do PS2 emulation.
>>736941703Yes. Fuck the haters.
