It was a late gen switch exclusive and wasn't advertised very well. Plus they already blew their load on "monkey ball is back" with banana mania.

Yeah that's what I mean about the reputation thing, you only get one of those. When people are used to Monkey Ball being bad you don't get to just have a good metacritic score and call it a done deal
