343 Studios. Though, looking at it now, Bungie wouldn't had been able to save it either even if they had stuck around with MS, as the talent had already bled away after Reach.
>>
The terrible decision to try making a movie meant Bungie's best, main writers weren't available for Halo 3. The series also ended by design with Halo 3, and was even aiming to end with Halo 2, but they couldn't get enough of the levels and story completed and also fit onto the hardware in time. Everything after that was unnecessary and against Halo's own natural completion. Stories don't have to perpetually go on, they can finish. It's not the same as a story dying.

Halo 3 for introducing the faggy armor ability cancer

It was always going to die, it was meant to help push console FPS movement a little more closer to PC, as the genre didn't translate all that well to console controllers. Halo never evolved past 2001 and it died for it. Halo lasted way longer than it should have.

3 was pretty good, I still think 2 and infinite are the Peak halos followed by 3. It was cool that you could play as a WORTWORTWORT

>halo 3
>armor ability
you mean reach? Halo 3 only had equipment you picked up around the map like bubble shields, emp, flares, jump pads, etc. Nothing like armor lock or sprint.

worse game design and campaigns in forced sequels. Reach was a downgrade after 3.

Reach still had a fun campaign and forge. The 343 games had nothing memorable about them

Microsoft demanding bungie keep the slop machine going despite them being burned out on Halo as a franchise. It peaked at ODST and Reach showed the kind of dogshit bungie wanted to cook instead and ever since Reach its been on the decline, 343's creations were far worse of course but the decline started with Reach.

The rise of COD shooters which hid the skill barrier. Any Halo fan who live through that era could have told you how they lost their friends to COD one by one. Mostly because of the prestige system.

Basically another victim of the war of intrinsic vs extrinsic rewards with extrinsic being the clear undeniable winner.

Bungie let parasites take over management. I guess as part of the "microsoft acquisition", so there really wasn't much choice. They were already a dead studio with Halo 1 out the door, it just took a decade to manifest.

Ultimately they grew the studio too big, which diluted the character and culture of the original dev team. By around the time of Reach it was becoming clear that people working at Bungie were working there not because they like Halo, but because it was a good checkmark on their resume. The simple fact is, you cannot replace or add people and get equally good works of art out the door.

The "lightning in a bottle" event happens because of the unique conditions, talents, and friendships of the development team. Creative works are not like producing widgets in a factory, once you remove grandpa who is really good with stories and you replace him with shaniqua who just wants to self insert a mary sue of herself, you cannot ever again get a good story out of your 'village'. Not until you remove shaniqua, and even then you'll struggle to get a new grandpa that's as good as your old grandpa and he'll never be the same.

This is the problem with every development studio in the industry and it's why the smaller teams of a dozen friends or solo indie devs are mopping the floor with AAA studios now, and it's why studios that see success grow in size and immediately become incompetent retards.

You cannot just add and remove people from creative development willy nilly like they're fucking robots. 30 years of this and the industry still doesn't get it.

Fippy. Reach was a fine sendoff, and i can totally understand people being filtered by the artstyle, it took me some time to get used to it back then as well. But Halo 4 was the beginning of the downward spiral.
>an ancient evil awakens
The multiplayer felt like a shitty amalgam of halo and cod with its dumbass killstreak system, and spartan ops was just lousy busywork when all legendary difficulty did was throw wave after wave of fuel rod cannon silver elites at you. Fucking boring. Also

I don't know why it took so long for someone to say Halo 4. That was a just a completely different game compared to the previous games. It was over. I remember even back then people said it was shit.

Anyone who was actually there during the peak of Halo knows it died because people shifted over to playing games like CoD online with friends over vc. Halo's biggest success was as a social gangout game, everyone played it splitscreen with their friends. The death of splitscreen gaming culture and the shift to online play is what killed Halo.

Halo was always just PC FPS for kids. The kids grew up, got PCs, and left it in the dust.

343 and M$ I'd say 4 wasn't bad still bad. 5 will forever be dogshit because of the AI mates, and infinity wasn't my cup of tea. For me Halo died when they stripped down the myth of the Forerunners. But that's kinda every western game, the lore written don't understand that you don't need to unearth every detail. That's why From Software games work so good, because Miyazaki leaves stuff for interpretation up for you the player.

>I'd say 4 wasn't bad still bad.
I almost smacked you but you followed it up with 5 being dogshit. I was at least able to trudge through 4, but 5 i only got through the first campaign mission before dropping the game entirely. My autistic quirk was playing through games on the hardest difficulty the first time through, and i was extremely put off "dying" in 5 only to be revived by my AI squadmates. Completely killed any desire to continue playing the game after that.

Online play overtaking splitscreen didn't kill Halo, Halo was at the cutting edge of online multiplayer (IIRC Halo 2 was actually the first game to feature matchmaking) and held enormous online player populations for years. Halo was killed by the overall video game market becoming larger and more casual/less nerdy and Halo was sacrificed on the altar of trend-chasing by clueless executives chasing the endless growth dragon instead of being allowed to naturally shrink into a more niche title.

If Microsoft released a Meta Quest Halo game then I would probably seriously consider buying.

Halo 4 was hot garbage. The guns felt terrible, the enemies were annoying, the story was stupid. That main antagonist was just retarded Darth Vader with speech issues, who can use the force for some reason. The series already had enough alien species up to that point, then they just keptnadding more. I hate how so many SciFi alien games take notes from star wars. You don't need a million different species. Like 3 is okay. Also why is it always humans vs all aliens? Never humans, 2 sets of aliens, vs another set of aliens? I mean I know it's easier that way. Human=good, alien=bad. Also I know the arbiter exists, and there were a couple points where aliens were on our side. But for the most part it's humans vs aliens.

343i. Easily.

>Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, and Halo Reach are all seen as wonderful Halo titles, with fans divided on which they love most.

>343i takes over.
>Hire a bunch of people who like COD.
>There first game, Halo 4, is literally COD Halo.
>Halo fans are like "wtf? this is just Halo COD. I want Halo. Not Halo COD"
>Next game, Halo 5: Guardians
>Double down on Halo COD. Also make the main character not Chief.
>Bleeds more fans, more "Wtf? This Halo COD again! And where's Chief?!"
>Next game, Halo Infinite
>Buggy piece of shit, more Halo COD, monetizing colors.

>Wow, how did our games fail?

That aspect is seriously downplayed and people like go "reee fucking Reach/343i killed Halo".
>Halo's biggest success was as a social gangout game
I disagree with this though. Halo's biggest success was MS level of marketing budget and being the "if you want to play a FPS on xbox you play Halo" type of game. As soon as that wasn't true, it was all over by 2009.
In my senior year of highschool during the rise of Call of Duty Halo was seen as that "kiddie game where you shoot cartoon aliens" while CoD was "the real shit bro, I called in a nuke last night it was fucking sick", ect.

They fell for the MLG meme and made competitive multiplayer a major focus when Halo was always a game with an awesome campaign with a fun party multiplayer mode you'd play with your bros. It's why Forge social modes persist while regular halo multiplayer is dead
