Forged Alliance Forever is basically perfect. It’s one of the few RTS games where macro, economy, and scale all actually matter at the same time. Most RTS games solve one and ignore the others.

I think Zero-K is the best all rounder and feels the most pure as an RTS. Supreme Commander and BAR have their niches where they're fun at, but I wouldn't say they are the purest form of RTS.

i tlaked with the lead balancing nigger while it was still called Complete Annihilation the way it was described to me is:

- ARM faction strengths: high damage, high speed, low cost, quirky special effects such as 120 metal stun effect starter unit one shotting a 1600 metal tier 2 CORE faction unit

- CORE faction strengths: low damage, low speed, high cost, higher HP

- the reason all devs and top players main ARM faction: purely because of vibes


the game was saved by merging both factions into one and rebalancing which coincidentally consisted of nerfing all the ARM units while buffing all the CORE units except the Instigator or what ever it was called

The quality loss in tone and in dialogue is super jarring between Starcraft 1 and 2, especially after coming to wings of liberty straight after finishing the campaign of Brood War.

What the fuck happened at Blizzard? Why did they lose their touch with what made Starcraft work so well tonally and aesthetics wise?

Dots fighting other dots that you can see is still strategic gameplay and you can zoom in to tip the scales if needed. This is a far cry from being force zoomed in when most of your attention should be anywhere but where the main screen is.

I always thought Starcraft's dialogue was retarded so I don't get it, the tone was the side effect of Blizzard having to retool the game in response to a bullshot trailer of another RTS that never came out to try to outdo that. SC2 just wore Blizzard's comic book inspirations more openly.

I just can't get into Z-zero-K. It's to goofy and wonky for me. Maybe if BAR didn't exist to scratch my TA itch along with Supcom I'd be more into it, but alas, they do exist.

I haven't had a problem with any of that. The maps are better than AOE and SC, with various implementations of land, sea, and size. There are various AIs across vanilla and user made. The factions have enough differences that benefit them all being used in each game. The max unit cap is plenty. And you barely have to zoom out for anything, just to go to a different location, really.
