System Shock was a product of its time, System Shock's remake was made to be timeless.
>mandalore releases a new video about a game>/v/ suddenly start having multiple threads about the same gameWhy do you fags keep pretending you dont like him? Stop being tsudere.
>timeless>removes the most interesting plot aspect and environmental detail from the game because it was "too much work"You may be confused what this image is even showing if you never played the original...Shodan was in the process of fusing Citadel Station with her biological experiments, creating a gigantic biomechanical "body" for her to literally rule over Earth and rain down hellfire. The entirety of the Bridge and all of Diego's areas are coated with this "biological infestation" with the Bridge having it pulsate with red fluid pumping through it.This is COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE REMAKE!
>>736966717Seriously, why would they remove the coolest part of the game?
>>736966543The application of this meme to every remake anon has ever heard of speaks to his inability to cognitively process the reasoning behind the contrast being made
>>736966717They removed content, made Diego more comically evil, and added fan audiologs that clashed with the tone despite them attempting to add more "horror" to the game.
>>736966809That would require making new textures and models for the goo-covered walls and machinery. Too much work for a dev team that never actually played the originals and had already had all the assets created from a bunch of still images they found of SS1 online (none of which showed the biological infestation).
>>736967034It's funny that all the faithful enemy redesigns are front loaded and they begin to vary radically from the original source the further you progress in the game. How many demos did Medical have? Five?
>>736966979Diego being made into "Generic Evil CEO #451" was so sad. He's a corrupt businessman who is using company secrets to make a personal profit, which is why he has Shodan's ethical code removed so she doesn't track or try to stop Diego's illegal activity. The point of the original Diego was that he was way over his head by the time he realized the true threat he unleashed, but his sole access to Shodan (thanks to the Hacker) allowed her to actually listen to him and accept a desperation deal of betraying all the humans on the station in order to maintain his consciousness after he is made a cyborg.
>>736966717That looks stupid, though. It's dumb.
OG is perfectly fine with mouselook. If you turn the HUD transparent it's not even weird.
>>736967215The HUD is part of the appeal of the game and part of why the game is entirely enjoyable even without mouselook. With mouselook, I notice people play SS1 way too fast like its Half-Life or something. They don't lean or realize they can aim at the very edge of the screen with mouselook turned off, they just strafe out of cover to shoot and back behind it to avoid retaliation. If you never played SS1 without mouselook, I recommend it highly. It feels like you have way more control due to how slowly you will move and how much lean needs to be used to kill things before they can shoot you.
>>736967171Seems like he was the same in both games. >Is morally bankrupt>Removes ethical constraints of AI to do bad things>Shit goes wrong>He's still morally bankrupt>Betrays other humans to save himselfThe remake just gave him more flare, whereas he was flat and had a worse VA in the original.
>>736967171I think they removed the "MY BUTT!" audiolog for some reason. Despite it characterizing Diego's megalomania and being completely oblivious to Shodan's control
>>736967393Yeah, that one's great because it happens right after Shodan blew up the shuttle with TriOp investigators coming to see Diego. Diego actually thinks he has control over Shodan and that Shodan is actively protecting HIM rather than herself. He even suggests to himself to kill the Hacker, lol. He doesn't realize he has totally lost control of Citadel and Shodan.
>>736967393That audiolog is more to make you think he's the main villain, no? Everyone playing the remake already knows about Shodan.
>>736967583Nta but no, it's found after you first fight Cyborg Diego, and it's laying right next to a follow-up audio log of him begging Shodan to spare him in exchange for betraying the location of the hiding humans.
>>736967583It's almost like Diego, the guy that wanted Shodan's ethical restraints deactivated to conceal his illegal activities, is also an antagonist and a major character
>>736967393The log exists but they change the scripting to make him seem like he's more nefarious and in control of the situation. The original "Pact" log sounds like a man who realizes that selling out his remaining human compatriots is the only way he could possibly escape suffering their horrible fates. The remake sounds like a villain who has to adjust his plans slightly to work with Shodan rather than use her as a weapon, idk it's just wrong.Diego isn't evil. He's bad. He's a selfish and corrupt criminal out to save himself.
>>736967171>Diego being made into "Generic Evil CEO #451" was so sad.>451Heh
>>736966543it's good except for the horrible crafting/reclaiming system the remake implemented. that alone unfortuantely makes it a worse game, even though its better in most wayshas somone modded it out yet? you are forced to engage with it for weapon ugrades and ammo
I legitimately hate the neon 80s CGI/VR look they gave Shodan in the remake. It was scarier and more interesting when she was arranging her own image/face out of the static snow and wiring of broken monitors.
>>736966543The remake ruined the intro, that alone tells me everything I need to know about the rest of the game.
>>736968639The remake was delayed three times for that intro. You ungrateful bastard!
>>736966717The most jarring change is Maintenance. They make every floor darker. But for the darkest floor of the original? Illuminate it.
>>736967207you're brown
>>736968379Maybe you just feel that way because of a combination of nostalgia, your imagination, and generally being more of a pussy in your youth.
>>736969395Could be but their new face is the same concept as this face from the original Mac release of the game (without any voice acting). As you can see, theirs looks much less threatening and lacks detail. It doesn't give the impression of an AI sculpting its own physical appearance out of previously-used electronics and wiring, it looks like some graphic designer made her.Immersion is a key part of being an "immersive simulation."
>>736969637I decided to post these images in the wrong order on purpose, as a joke.
>>736966543Yes the remake is more timeless while og aged badly. But a better example is Crash Bandicoot Nsane
>>736968379>wiring of broken monitorsi had no idea thats what it was supposed to be
