GBA has working mirrors without gaytracing
>>
>>736974694
Why is it showing the same perspective instead of a mirrored on? Shouldn't his back be shown in the mirror?
>>
>>736974694
They just put a second character object behind the mirror

>>
>>736978181
If you threw a superball against the wall, it would bounce and hit that person from behind, correct? Now imagine light as a bunch of really tiny superballs that bounce off walls and enter your eye. Mirrors are just a bounce pad for light.

But what if I close one eye??? The image is still there! This doesn't make any sense!?!
>>
>>736978181
Because the light is reflecting off of the object, then off of the mirror, then into your eyes. The mirror doesn't "know" shit. It is a surface that light reflects off of.
That is how seeing things works, you're welcome.

Your eyes see the mirror at an angle, and thus reflect light that is at an angle. You can only see what light reflect off. So a ray of light hit the object in front of the paper, radiate all around and hit the mirror in an angle. That ray of light bounce from the mirror at an angle and then hit your eyes. The mirror is a flat surface, it has no depth.

the mirror reflects what you see anon, it reflects the light your eyes use to see things
it's just a surface, there's nothing to see in it if there's no-one looking at it

why would the mirror know what his back looks like?
>>
>>736974860
How they achieved the effect is irrelevant. What matters is it didn't require UE5, lumen, ray tracing, or DLSS 5.
>>
>>736984441
How they achieved the effect is relevant. There is a general distaste for specialized solutions in all areas of modern programming. Devs want to be able to do something once and have it work everywhere, with no additional work required. This is why so many of the tricks have fallen out of fashion in favor of obscenely heavy generalized solutions that produce mediocre results.
So the question is, why?
I think the answer is because all software has gotten so big and complicated that developers can't cope with keeping things "correct" where there are so many discrete parts. So they generalize. Make one big complicated thing that you just need to make sure it works and is well defined and then just assume it'll work in all the cases you use it that fit the pre-requisites. Fewer permutations than 999 small specialized things interacting.

This. The cost of gaming has exploded as people's expectations for AAA game graphics have increased with each console generation.

One interesting consequence of generalization is that a lot of the lower cost 3D games all feel very samey, with a different variation depending on the game engine they're basing themselves on.
>>
>>736974832
The mirror is facing the wall. You're seeing the back side of it.
>>
>>736984978
>as people's expectations for AAA game graphics have increased with each console generation
More like we hit the limit of what games could look like in 2008 and since then, grafix cards companies have invented more and more retarded shit that grafixfags just HAVE to enable because it's the hot new feature, while not making the game look any different
>>
>>736985065
You can't possibly believe a 2008 AAA game looks the same as 2026 one.
The 2000s was also full of graphic card manufacturers selling shit like PhysX.

Well wouild you look at that. It's also hilarious that you zoomers think "oh yeah? but they pushed more interactivity back then!" is a counterargument

All you gotta do is have him pull out some anachronistic ninja gear, have him say something along the lines of "It's about time I got to show Yoko what I learned in the Marines.", and then he plays exactly like Grant but with an AK-47 and some 'nades. The mystery of why or how he learned this would simply be part of the fun.
Still kinda sad he never ended up being a long-lost Danasty, it would've been funny more than anything, but him just being some marine who wound up at Drac's is also pretty great.
