Here, i just saved the WiiU.
>>
>wii2? is that like a 2 player game for the wii?
This is how people who criticize the Wii U name sound like.

The Wii U failed because it was a bad console, not because of its name.

The name and marketing was objectively terrible and did the console no favors, however the console had too many flaws to ever be a success regardless
>>
That's not good games.
Or apt pricing for a Xbox 360 released in 2012.
Or a tablet that works independently from the machine.
Or a console that works independently from the tablet.
Or a gimmick that lands with anybody or is used at all.
Or a 3rd party game that isn't old news.

They should've called it the Nintendo Y'all

The Wii U failed 100% just because of its name and marketing. When two years after launch people still didn't realize it was a new system, that was a problem. Had they named it the Wii 2 people would have known it was a new system and bought it. Had it seen early sales it would have received more support. That would have caused a positive feedback loop. It wouldn't have seen Wii or Switch numbers, but it would have definitely sold more than 12M units in five years.

look up the last years of the Wii software sales, the Wii brand was already dead by that point.

The name didn't help, genius, and first impressions and clarity in marketing are important.
"2" is a universally understood signifier of a sequel, like "Super Mario Bros 2" or "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" or the most famous followup console ever, the Playstation 2.
"U" is completely meaningless and confusing and to boomer parents and normies who aren't total nerds about this shit and follow absolutely everything.

wii wii two two pee pee poo poo

It’s because they showcased the tablet controller to casuals and not the console itself.

You say that but I genuinely didn't know the wii u was a console when it released. I only figured it out when I saw someone playing MK8 and I was like "look at those graphics" and looked it up

What blows my mind is that EVERYONE said immediately that no one would know a “Wii U” was a new console. Then for FIVE YEARS, despite industry research proving the problem, they didn’t change it.

it should have been called the Nintendo You, and hire the Soulja Boy as an embassador and to make publicity, that would also could save us the Soulja boy consoles disaster from some years ago

if the name was such a big issue, why didn't the 3DS fail? or the Gameboy Advance? or the SNES? none of those are any clearer than the Wii U, but they did fine.

truth is it was just a mediocre console and the name had very little to do with it. it may have confused a handful of parents, but it didn't make any meaningful difference in the long run.

Retard. They started the reveal with someone playing New Super Mario Bros with the Wii remote. They repeatedly tell you what you can do on the "New Controller" and literally don't mention that it's a console at all. Then they show footage of Wii Sports. Then Wii Fit. Then they show it being used with the Wii Zapper.

Anyone who claims they were confident they saw a new console during the reveal is a liar. I don't think it would have been possible for them to fuck up bigger than they did.

Well for starters, none of those were advertised as "new controllers." You're fucking retarded and were probably in diapers when the Wii U launched.

>why didn't the 3DS fail? or the Gameboy Advance? or the SNES?
They had much better marketing. I already said the Wii U's marketing was absolutely terrible.

Perfect example of the kind of retard ITT who needs everything spelled out to him. This is your average consumer who would've known it's an entirely separate console if it was named the "Wii 2" instead.

True and real. There's also other factors for the Wii U failing, and it has to do with how sloppy Nintendo consoles, even the Wii became at the time. 3DS was floundering. Wii had long since given up on quality titles. The Wii U positioned itself as a console slightly more powerful than the 360...inspired by the weird ipad feature showing up in battlefield 4? Really? And this was gonna be the defining feature for the System?

For some reason, nobody believed this would work. Nintendo pushed on, "The DS worked, this has to as well! People love two screens!" No people loved the DS for its library...and now the 3DS is failing because of its library. Two screens is and always will be a gimmick. If you don't justify it, nobody will care. And look, not a single game made use of it to justify the tablet. You're stuck with a novelty that on full charge lasts an hour and 40 minutes.

Pathetic Wii U.
