no matter how you feel about it the truth of the matter is that classic will not survive without significant changes. 90% of what made this game fun back in the day were the social elements which in 2026 very few people will be engaging with bar telling you to cc because they were here first. no one is going to be ok with spamming messages to buy and sell shit, people will get mad if you don't immediately know how to do the PQ, and old maple does not have much in terms of fun endgame content like bosses or group quests. old school runescape approach could work but it will require people to let go of the "IT WAS LIKE THAT BACK IN THE DAY!!" sentiment in favor of progress. otherwise this game will be dead in 3 months.

For all the hype and legacy this game has as a mmorpg, I'm really not impressed with what I've been playing. I thought the gameplay of Maplestory would be similar to Rabi-Ribi or Tevi, because it's clear that those games were inspired by it - at least visually. Long ago, I played a little bit Grand Chase and a lot of Elsword up until 2013 and always believed Maplestory was in that area when it comes to combat. Instead, the game seems completely braindead. Standing in a spot or moving around a bit waiting for cooldowns to reach 0, drinking a potion and grinding for hours is absolutely not difficult or engaging. I think the appeal must've been the cute artstyle and social element when doomscrolling apps didn't exist yet. Please tell me, does this get better at higher levels? I don't want to be spoiled and watch gameplay videos of future areas, bosses or locations. I might keep going if I know gameplay gets more depth and combat becomes fun. I'm playing thief class btw
