BUT WHY IS THERE ONLY ONE FOR EACH OF THOSE TYPE COMBOS?
WHY DO WE HAVE 1000000 ROCK/GROUNDS AND NORMAL/FLYINGS?

There actually aren't a lot of rock ground. The last time they added one was Gen 4 and that was an evolution to an existing one. Onix evolves into a steel type and Pupitar evolves into a dark type so there's actually only just Golem and Rhyperior.

Huh, I wasn't aware Rock/Grass was so rare that only Cradily had it. It's not even that spectacular of a typing. Neat all the same.
It was always my favorite fossilmon.
>>
>>736985482
Considering all Ground types learn Rock moves and vice versa there is no need for dual water/grass weakness.

Rock grass is psychotically good just because of all the inherent traits
>+50% special defense in sand
>immune to spore and rage powder
Just Cradily isn’t good

At some point Gamefreak just started going through checklists to clear a bunch of unused type combinations every gen. Like, look at this Pikawho and tell me exactly what makes it fighting type.
And then sometimes they get so lazy that they take old designs, change a few things, give it an original type combo and call it a regional variant, and some other times they get even lazier and just make it a mega.
>>
>>736985435
>Make a female-only oni pokemon with childish behaviours

What the fuck did Game Freak mean by this?
>>
>>736986104
did they give this thing any buffs

>>736985582
Rock/Grass is actually really good. Rock/Ghost would be fucking amazing but they refuse to make that a Pokemon, even Runerigus got gimped and turned into Ground/Ghost (which is bad defensively despite having three immunities)
>>
>>736986796
Don't forget Cradily is immune to water as well and can use Recover. It's soooooo fucking close to being a top tier Pokemon but it just isn't quite as strong as it needs to be..

NTA but I read on /vp/ that they buffed Healer from 30% to 50%. I don't know if that's true
>>
>>736988824
It only got “buffed” in the sense that it’s no longer the worst mega since nearly every single new ZA mega is unusable
>>736989028
No, basically all changes to shit like that were nerfs
>>
>>736989115
None of the new Megas are as bad as people were memeing except for Victreebel whose stats are at odds with the ability. Meowstic also could've done with something besides Trace but at least it has Competitive or Prankster before it Mega Evolves so you can try and do something cool with those.

Skarmory's ability change makes sense when you realize the real purpose behind it is to disable Weak Armor after you've gotten the boost. There's no additional function for Stalwart in singles, but being able to turn off Weak Armor and prevent further defense loss does provide a benefit.
>>

Victreebell exists to meme Charizard Y out of existence

I hate this thing got a mega because it really should have gotten a third stage instead, and then a mega. this thing looks like a middle stage evolution.
>>
>>736985553
the only reason why people think there are a ton of them is because there were three different families in gen 1 for a total 6 pokemon. Even still, Larvitar, Pupitar, and Onix lose the typing when they evolve, with only Rhyperior being added later, for a total of two (2) fully evolved rock ground types.
>>
>>736987674
Our first electric/fighting should have been Galar Zapdos.
>>
>>736990659
It should have been Zeraora. I assumed it was part fighting, but it's mono electric for no particular reason.

They've been playing more fast and loose with the more abstract types in recent years.
Like how ghost types don't need to be literal ghosts anymore.

My guess is that you are usually fighting to revive someone from death, which ties into it getting revival blessing and the whole defibrillator theme.

Does Mega Evolution give Greninja Protean regardless of its base form's ability? Like, is it possible to gain a stat boost by sniping a kill with Battle Bond Greninja and THEN Mega into Protean?
>>
>>736991594
Any mega greninja will have protean, but battle bond greninja cannot currently be used in champions, and pokemon don't have abilities in ZA, so there is currently no situation where you could have a battle bond greninja and also be able to mega evolve it
>>
>>736991594
We don't know because battle bond isn't in the game
>>
>>736991594
>Battle Bond Greninja

>>
>>736991760
battle bond greninja still exists in gen 9/scarlet and violet, but it doesn't transform in to ash greninja. it also works a bit differently too.

You are supposed to use it in doubles with rage powder

Theoretically nothing, because you'd be wasting your mega slot on this than on anything better.

>>736991954
that's the least of champion's current problems.
>>
>>736991884
Being able to redirect with Rage Powder is really good but it has shit defensive typing and mediocre bulk. I've heard of some people having success with it but who knows
>>
Give me a reason why i shouldn't run glimmora, mega meganium and garchomp in champions singles
>>
>>736991937
If it was f tier before, now it's mid-low d tier. It still suffers from opportunity cost of not running something like charizard y, but it is fun investing into bulk while rage powdering. Plus that decent attack stat does let it pick up some KOs here and there.
>>
>>736991884
The burn is garunteed no matter what.
>muh mega gengar, salamence, kangeskan, whatever the fuck else
Yes the strongest megas in the game that can 1v6 everything are better than it, no that doesnt mean its not good. Its going to be great for doubles and completely broken in singles. Its shuts down every physical pokemon by just existing.

Damn, I didn't know Roar and its ilk was after Counter. That's an interesting counter to Wobbuffet I'd never considered.
>>
>>736992569
remember when during gen 4 everyone had a collective bout of madness that he was the greatest pokemon ever?
>>
>>736992393
counter has negative priority? this could be a useful surprise
>>
>>736992569
You mean design-wise? Electabuzz is bad even with Eviolite.
>>
>>736992680
well you'd never know it, because it isn't a good move and wobbuffet is already slow enough that it would always go last anyway.

>>736992614
the counter to wob is to count on the fact that nobody is ever going to use one. if you have a setup move, you can just spam it until you're strong enough to one shot it. destiny bond only has at most 8 PP so you can easily wait it out.
>>
>>736992767
>the counter to wob is to count on the fact that nobody is ever going to use one
True enough, which is a shame since he was always one of my favorite gimmick mons to play with in the games proper. Punches way above his weight 90% of the time. I always wondered whether giving Wobbuffet Pound would do anything to its viability in a competitive format. It's so weak that I doubt it, but it's a fun idea.
>>
>>736992564
do you mean mega-bisharp
>>
>>736992879
I'd say a neat gimmick for wobbuffet for doubles purpose would be to give him a unique version of counter and mirror coat that worked as a hybrid of rage powder and counter/mirror coat

only works to counter attacks that are used on allies, but automatically redirects those attacks to the wobbuffet that turn
>>
>>736984152
This pokemon is unfuckable, why would I ever want one?
>>
>>736985339
Fire/Ice is even worse
>>
>>736993062
You could also give it Metal Burst, which is Counter and Mirror Coat combined, but it deals back half as much as the other two moves. Kinda surprised it can't learn this.
>>
>>736992569

>>
Modern Pokemon designs are so fucking dumb
>>
>>736994119
I'm not going to be "that guy" who prattles off a list of bad designs from older gens, but if you're going to judge an entire generation only by the worst examples they have to offer, you're a legitimate retard. Yes, we know stunfisk looks stupid. It's hardly the standard of generation 5.
>>
>>736992717
Electabuzz and Magmar are good in doubles now. Which is more than can be said for Electivire and Magmortar, who aren't good at anything.
>>
>>736995631
What makes them good in doubles?
>>
>>736995669
They get Follow Me. Naturally, their evolutions can use it too but Magmar and Electabuzz are both faster and with eviolite bulkier so they use it better.
Electabuzz also has arguably better abilities than Electivire.
>>
>>736990610
Oh wow you're right, I just went to Bulbapedia to confirm. Ignoring Onix because it hasn't been a fully evolved form since Gen 2, Golem and Rhyperior are the only two fully evolved Rock/Ground Pokemon in the entire Pokedex. Now that's a curious fact.
>>
>>736992569
God damn, I hate Gen. IV designs so much it's unreal. All the evolutions for older Pokemon are borderline rape.

Just so you don't think I'm a Kanto-brained contrarian, I actually really like some of the more recent cross-generation evolutions like Kingambit and Annihilape.
>>
>>736984152
Would you rather be frozen?
>>
>>736995919
One of my biggest issues with later evolutions of early gen pokemon is the eyes. Elekid and Electabuzz had those Toriyama Dragonball eyes. I don't know why they gave Electivire those stupid red marbles, I wonder if it would have looked better if it had the same eyes as Electabuzz.

>>
>>736992564
I've never bothered much with Kingambit. Is its retarded ability that overpowered? It must be slow, right?
>>
>>736996584
It's slow, but has Sucker Punch which hits like a truck after his ability
So if your mon isn't surviving either his signature move, or Sucker, you just have to either predict all of his Sucker PP away, or eat shit
>>
>>736996584
Defiant makes it scary because it has access to sucker punch
it's even better if you can set up trick room because yeah he slow as hell

>>
>>736996584
Kingambit hits like a truck. It's slow but gets Sucker Punch, which is the 50/50, you have to predict its Sucker Punches every time.
>Is its retarded ability that overpowered?
Very.
>>
>>736996675
There are ways to reduce a move's priority, like with Prankster, but I'm not sure why they'd reserve two priority levels for something like that.
