The most forgettable Zelda game....
>>736989215How is it? I never got around to it. I forgot about it.
>>736989507Middling. It's got some nice parts and summoning an army can be fun but it's held down by the TotK menu you need to use to try and select echos.
>>736989507It's great but >>736989596 is right about the selection menu sucking.
>>736989507>>736989596Genuinely a rare case of a good concept being obliterated by a horrible UIThe world was nice, dungeons were nice, gimmick was fun, the UI is so atrocious it actively discourages you from doing anything other than rushing the handful of BiS echoes and favoriting them since navigating the menu to creatively solve puzzles rather than brute forcing them is more tedious than watching paint dry in the bucketHaving an open world but with plot progressing fully fledged dungeons was a good compromise between classic and botw styles
>>736989507If you approach it with the mindset I want to solve this puzzle/ encounter without using the least obvious solution. It is probably more enjoyable. The games is more fun as a sandbox. The game does reward you for thinking creatively. The game gives you tools to do it the easy and obvious way. I would advise resisting temptation because the easy way is boring.
I want to like it more, but the awful totk-style menu for picking echoes is so awful and bereft of options that it killed the fun for me. How hard would it have been to just let you pick and choose what to show or have a favorites list or something? I played at launch though. Apparently they made it slightly better since then, but im not motivated to go back to it.
>>736989507It's fun for maybe 2 hours before you realize the game is stacking beds and trampolines while you spam the couple broken echoes who auto-attack with zero input from you. Once you get the circulating darknut, the game is effectively over. The Link transformation mode where you can swing a sword is annoyingly limited because they know people would just use that instead of spawning a bunch of braindead mobs.Dungeons are reduced to BotW/TOTK-tier jank, so any puzzle has a trillion solutions and it feels awful and never feels rewarding or thought provoking. The entire game just feels like this mindless haze after the first 2 hours, I am honestly struggling to remember a single boss or setpiece beyond the deku jungle and snowy mountain. And it's because every boss dies to the same tactics you've been spamming against every enemy, and there is no skill ceiling or virtually any input. Changing to Link mode when a boss in vulnerable just makes it end a little faster, that's it. It's essentially the game people feared would happen once BOTW poisoned even the traditional entries, but with its own flaws added on top of it.
>>736990993>Retarded opinions>irrational unpromted seething about BotW>posts straight up reductive lies about the game, has a clear axe to grind>reddit spacingBack to /r/truezelda with you nigger.
>>736989215nah.that was tri force heroes
>>736989215The menuing is ass but let's be real, most of the 2D games have a lot of menuing from item swapping. The actual problem is that the game isn't very well made. It was made by a remaster studio using recycled assets. It has no juice, no talent. Everything is lame and uninspired - visuals, dungeons, locations, NPCs, story, etc. The rifts suck. It's not even good as a Princess Zelda game, Tri does all the work and you transform into fucking Link.
>>736989507Good conceptually, but 99% of puzzles are a square hole and you have 30+ pegs that fit those. I'd love to see a romhack with dungeons that are more restrictive on puzzle solutions, because it'd be a great game if it actually required thought from the player.
>>736991102Triforce Heroes was actually fun, it just had a shelf life because it depended on the online multiplayer to work. I liked it way more than EoW.They should port ALBW + TFH with more content, bundled together.
>>736989215Nah, that's probably Triforce Heroes or something. This one made BotW's obsession with open-ended exploration and problem solving bearable by putting more than 5 minutes of thought into the skeleton of the thing. It has a story it's set on telling and a general structure to follow, but not be led by the nose through either. I like that a lot about it. The combat's whatever, but collecting echoes like they're Pokemon was fun as hell.>>736989596>>736989814>>736989893>>736990754Oh yeah, the UI is fucking terrible though. Funny how Skyward Sword took strides to keep the game in real time as often as possible, and then immediately after we get this bland menuing shit.
I recently played it and had a lot of fun. Its very cute and i enjoyed the puzzle focus
>>736989507It might be the most "just okay" game in the franchise. The gimmick isn't terrible, the dungeons ranged from shit (Eldin) to refreshing (Lanayru and Faron), but the menuing is genuinely enough to detract from the experience as a whole and holy fucking shit do I wish they didn't asset flip the fucking LA remake of all things for this game. I genuinely believe the art style limited the game from being as cool as it could've been. Some bosses feel wasted on a game that looks the way EOW does. The story, if you care about that, is also just kind of there. There are actual spoilers in the tags btw so, again, if you care about that, don't reveal them. It got in on pushing the Demon King shit and that "Zelda is just as important as Link" thing that the series has been doing since Skyward Sword, and Skyward Sword is still the worst Zelda game so I hated that. I would say I was happy to see the Golden Goddesses and, more importantly, the Triforce make a comeback after years of absence, but the real villain relates to them so poorly that they kind of neutralize one another.tl;dr - it was, as the kids say, mid. I did not regret playing it but I will never play it again even though the echoes were probably intended to make you want to do that.
>>736991367I agree the visuals were ass, definitely the ugliest Zelda game. Even the DS games were more expressive.Every time something happened the characters were just like: No charm.
>>736991490meant:|
>>736991367Explain to me what people liked so much about Faron. I get Lanayru, it was the standout dungeon since it had multiple puzzles that went outside the usual one-size-fits-all solutions, but I don't remember Faron doing anything meaningfully different from the rest.
>>736989507Better open world than botw and totk.
>>736991603I liked how the exterior was as much a part of it as the interior was. Having to find different ways in and such to get to different areas. It made me think, "this is what a dungeon in open air Zelda should feel like."Really, it just scratched my 'tism the right way, but I quite enjoyed it. I also enjoyed Skull Woods in ALTTP, so that helped.
>>736990754They patched a favorites feature in. It's definitely an improvement, albeit a band-aid of one.
>>736991734That's fair. The Gerudo dungeon also had you navigating the exterior for multiple entrances, didn't it? I only see people praising Faron for that.
>>736989215Who wants to play Zelda in Zelda? Fucking make a new game IP instead of uprooting the concept.
>>736989507It's a decent game, and IMO worth trying when on sale or pirating. It felt like it was an experiment on how they could mesh modern BoTW/ToTK designs into an older 2d zelda world. It works out fairly well, but I can see why some would be disappointed or not into it.
>>736989215The latter half of the game where you get the ability to stack water cubes and walk atop trees and cliffs made the overworld traversal really fun.I didn't play this or the Link's Awakening remake until getting a Switch 2 so getting to experience them with none of the tech difficulties that plagued them was nice,
>>736992140I don't mind the idea, and the echo concept does lean into Zelda's supposed wisdom in theory. Shame there's a number of mechanics in direct conflict with its implementation, but the idea wasn't a bad one to give to Zelda as a character. Better that than making her some mary-sue archer or some shit like that.
>>736989215You remember it.
take me back
>>736989215It's not anymore forgettable than the littany of Gameboy/DS games. I don't even see people talk about Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass.
>>736992459Is the Princess Peach game fun?
>>736992535It's the Kirby's Epic Yarn devs making their own version of Puppeteer, featuring Peach. It's a hard sell if you're not a girl under the age of 10 or the most diehard of Peachfags. I waited over 17 years for a follow-up to Super Princess Peach. I will take my drops of water in this desert.
>>736989507It's strictly a puzzle game but all the puzzles are designed for young children.
>>736989507A fun reimagining of 2D Zelda. It's nice to explore a new open world that's smaller and slightly more structured compared to something like TotK. While the summoning gimmick is very enjoyable and compliments the open design philosophy, it also becomes rather tedious to use once you near the end of the game. If something like this was made again with a different art style, a new gimmick, a more involved story, and a slightly larger world, then it would probably be my favorite Zelda game.
>>736993008I mostly agree, though to my tastes EoW's overworld was the perfect size. One of the things I adore about it is how it reeled in the real estate of BotW/TotK and actually utilized the space it has meaningfully. I very rarely felt like a stretch of land in this world was a waste of time. It's up there for one of my favorite Zelda overworlds in practice.
>>736993008it would be nice if someone made an actual map using the overworld.
>>736989215That’s actually cadence.
>>736993106Yeah, I dropped both BotW and TotK after 3 dungeons from burnout. There's such a thing as to much game. I could just speedrun the story but that isn't fun purposefully avoiding 75% of the game
>>736993106It didn't reel in BotW, it added a perimeter to ALttP
>>736994598ALttP is the superior overworld so that's a compliment if anything. You can certainly explore with a freedom more akin to BotW though. Once you get a handful of the right echoes, it's basically all cracked wide open on the spot.
ocarina of time isn't getting a remake, but it takes place years after the adult timeline with an expanded hyrule.
>>736989507Great idea with faulty implementation, there aren't any nearly enough interesting and challenging setpieces using the core mechanics, maybe a couple puzzles and battles that really use the summons in an interesting way.The addition of the Link mode where you just swing a sword and shoots a bow shows that they weren't that confident in their ability to use their core idea effectively, which is really a shame, because in the few places it uses it, it actually feels novel and interesting.
>>736994918>after the adult timeline with an expanded hyruleFinally, the return to New Hyrule. It's about goddamn time.
>>736992535It is literally a game for little girls and it is perfectly fine at that.
