I'm a filthy zoomer and I never played the original Oblivion. Is it worth trying the remaster? I'm not expecting Skyrim the prequel or anything but I want to play a magic and swords RPG.

Just wait for Skyblivion bro just 2 more years bro
>>
the remaster was a jeet-coded cashgrab that runs like dogshit.
I broke my rule of not giving Bethesda money and I was punished for my transgression.

yes
I have installed the unofficial patch, vanilla purist's mod, and achievements enabler (so I can play vanilla without as many bugs)
be warned that the facial animations are the same as the original (very dated) so your zoomer brain might get upset about that
but altogether it's a decent "remaster" as long as your PC can run it

If your pc can run it well, yes. Fucking loved replaying it, despite the absolute dogshit optimization. Get into custom spells early by either doing all the mage colleges or using the dlc tower.
>>
if skyrim is your baseline you can only go up but its not gonna be much of an improvement

Play the original, the new version is a Type1/Type2 game.
They changed some other things. I cant remember exactly. I just installed the original instead, lol.

You may or may not like it. I liked it, but a lot of my enjoyment of this remake came from nostalgia.
My very normal millennial friend told me he thought it was "Skyrim but worse in every way", which honestly gutted me. His first TES game was Skyrim.

Entertaining with mods. Runs like dog shit though.

>you need 16 gigs of ram just to run unmodded oblivion
Fuck no.

Take it from a hater. Its OK. Make sure you do some magic because full physical/melee falls off a bit and the melee combat is kinds lackluster, though better in the remaster a bit.

I can inderstand how he would feel that way. However playing a mage is better in oblivion than skyrim imo. And I like oblivions guild quests at least as much as skyrims, maybe more.

Yes, absolutely, don't listen to deranged haters. The remaster is a solid work and I'm saying it as someone who usually shits on all remasters. It looks good, it mostly manages to keep the atmosphere of the original and the only major changes they did were are adding a sprint button (which is a decent quality of life feature), partially (though not fully) unfucking the leveling system and adding like two, sadly shitty, new quests.

My only major issue with it is the absolutely ridiculous amount of disc space it requires, but what else can you expect these days. But honestly just because of this if I ever feel like replaying it again I might just stick to the original, since I don't care about fancy graphics very much.

But anyway, give it a shot, it's a good game.

They utterly failed to capture the aesthetic of the original which is what you should play. Also the lighting model is just *wrong* - it looks like prerendered stills in an adventure game instead of real scene that you're in.

That doesn't matter if you never played the original. OP at worst you'll be a secondary. At best you'll be a tertiary that gets gate kept.
