Farm work is physically intensive enough that, if a Link starts there, it makes his physical ability believable. She's also frequently connected to horses, so if Link needs an incarnation of Epona, who better to go to than her? And whenever the series decides to do something weird, it would be fun to see how 'the farmgirl' gets adapted to the setting. Like, what would a WW Malon be doing? What does New Hyrule's prized ranch look like, in a world that's actually creeping toward its own Industrial Revolution?Zelda has become too complicated and, frankly, too obligatory. Also I hate Skyward Sword and Fujibayashi, so I must summarily deny her to spite them both. My apologies to the unironic Zeldafags.Ruto is a solid pick. So is Saria, but she's a much harder sell for obvious reasons. The issue is that they, as a Zora and a Kokiri, have much more prerequisites to appear than Malon. Ruto is the Zora princess, so she mandates a large enough water area to house a fresh new Zora's Domain, maybe w/ a new King Zora, with every appearance. Likewise, Saria is a Kokiri, so she needs a big forest and/or new Lost Woods that houses their settlement with every game she appears in, along with a Deku Tree.In the case of Saria and Ruto, their requirements aren't outright dealbreakers. The biggest issue is that exoticism burns up fast. The first time, it's special, it's different. The tenth time? The audience is bored of [race], they want them to sit out a game now. What about [other race], they'll say. But Malon? Good luck petitioning to ditch humans/Hylians. And even then, she's a cute, pleasant character that cares about you. A simple blueprint, but an effective one, easy to follow and easy to adapt. You're welcome, Miyamoto.This is all just going by the girls in OP, selecting from across the entire series would be WAY harder.
