I think one of my favourite moments from the RE games is when you come across Enrico as Jill. I know you also come across him as Chris, but up to this point, the conspiracy between Umbrella and the S.T.A.R.S. was becoming more obvious through Jill and her interactions with Barry and Wesker. Chris really doesn't get any plot as he's too busy fucking Rebecca, so the twist that something is wrong doesn't hit as hard. Through Barry, we know that some secret plot is going on, and it adds to the tension of exploring the mansion with a bunch of crazy monsters. Not only are you trying to survive the zombies and hunters, but also the doomed narrative an asshole in sunglasses is pereptuating. The scene with Enrico adds to this, being one of the last members of Bravo team and someone who's made it further than anyone else. When that gunshot goes off and Enrico is dead, the game has firmly switched from a 'haunted house' game to something that feels larger than the Spencer Mansion.

I don't think one route feels more canon than the other, but it's weird how it all plays out by the end. Somehow, Chris/Jill gets captured toward the end of the game with the other side character completely absent.I guess if I did have a preference for the canon route or hero, it'd be Chris since I think it's great that he laughs in Wesker's face.
