Yeah the shielded enemies can fuck it up, but you ice elemental on your turning slash will one-shot pretty much most regular field enemies in a single hit (turns them to ice and shatters them). It can one-shot shielded enemies as well if they are weakened, but they can also block it and mess up that challenge.
