I don't really understand people saying they're having trouble with the game. I haven't beaten the game yet mind you, but I've been cruising through the whole game with this build. Just make sure you spend your ability points on bonus AP since it's the most valuable stat by far.

Full Power Slash is actually very strong and consistent when you can -4 speed the enemy every turn. Blade guard + protection as a bonus + iron wall = 100 block + 2 instances which is easy to maintain.

Block is your best way to not lose when the game pulls out bullshit on you (And bosses often have moves that ignore accuracy and check for your block anyways) and counterstance is a way to get past some BS enemies because it ignores essentially everything.It's just that if you want to dump damage Axe is generally better if you want to spend your whole turn on damage. Since you can easily swap between weapons it makes more sense to have a weapon built for defense and a weapon to dump damage depending on whatever makes more sense for the turn.Spear is probably the weakest weapon if anything in my opinion, so it's generally just my choice for stalling while maintaining debuffs. By having feint on it instead of sword it means I can save a more valuable sword skill slot for something else.Being able to use Feint to -2 an enemy's speed without spending your own speed is incredibly valuable, but every weapon can do that, so it might as well be on spear.
