This, also EA, Ubisoft, Micrsoft alone will just pay the correct people to get this shot down.
You can't win. The industry will not give up service games.
>>
>>737073621
Or perhaps allow these games to function with lobbies
>>
>>737074132
That was proven false though, corpo cuck

>>
>>737074238
that's impossible. it's just not possible. there has never been a big-budget game capable of allowing p2p or locally-hosted lobbies
it just can't be done.
>>
>>737074796
damn, that's crazy. those big companies better figure it out before they get fined for not obeying the law.
>>
>>737073585
Why would anyone want this to fail anyways? Assuming you don't misunderstand what's being asked, there's no downside to it succeeding
>>
>>737073585
It's not about The Crew
It's about making Ubisoft suffer

Studios will never make live service games again, millions of jobs will be deleted as service game dedicated studios + their support studios are all wiped out instantly

Even Fortnite is dying at this point. Live service is beginning to center entirely around Roblox. Which in itself doesn't make money because everything is user created and they legally have to do billions of user payouts. It itself is also always a step away from getting legislated against because the constant pedo controversies

literally worse than hitler. imagine how many poor, starving game devs he forced to code the backbreaking task of adding player-hosted servers to the game. literal thousands of manhours, billions, no, trillions of dollars, because this fucking guy couldn't keep his mind off the crew. insane he even has the gall to leave his house, why is he showing his disgusting mug in the parliament?
>>
>>737076030
discs do actually stop working after 20-30 years due to physical rotting and bit corruption
>>
>>737075818
That's not how this works. Literally nothing has to change with how games are developed. Literally nothing, save for they have to let us be able to boot the game up when they're sick of paying hosting fees. It won't even cost them a cent... except theoretical costs of people still playing old games instead of their yearly released newslop. Which is why the industry is fighting it.
>>
>>737075364
>Studios will never make live service games again
LOL! Studios lose nothing from making an end of life plan for their games. There are already games that at the end of their life cycle are giving people the option to host private servers.
>>
>>737076001
Releasing server binaries is only as much effort as it is to upload a file to the internet. Shut up retard.

And Battlefield 2
And Battlefield 2142
And Battlefield Bad company 2
And Red alert 2
And Dead space 2 coop
And Burnout paradise
And any other future game with functionality designed to be dependant on a server they know will be turned off.

While you wave them off, flippantly saying they aren't worth saving while using moral blackmail claiming indie devs who never use server would suffer having to do "extra work" or pay indefinitely to keep servers running, when no indie dev would ever choose to add an expense like that; they would use free methods that have been around since the start and require no maintenance or ongoing support. Or delusionally cry that the poor corpos are being forced to release """""the binaries""""" like a fucking SDK is a source code leak.

yeah, like The Crew and uh...
>>
>>737076001
>Assuming you don't misunderstand what's being asked
ah, we found the issue here then
it wouldn't be more work for developers because they've already done all of the work necessary (develop the server code), all they have to do is release it to the public when they no longer want to support the game themselves

glad to clear that up. hope i helped, champ! :)

Netflix can "stream" videos to you for a monthly cost and pull the plug whenever. But videogames doing that is le evil? It would have made sense if this 5head nerd targeted all media but instead he had to go nerdrage because of THE CREW and call games "art". It makes his cause seem like a joke.
>>
>>737079145
loved that game
think it was my first experience of a live service game shutting down
so disappointed
>>
>>737079784
Netflix is a subscription, when you stop paying you stop getting movies, games that are one-time purchases are not
>>
>>737079859
So basically SKG is not going to stop live-service games? Just make sure companies let their customers know it's a subscription and all is hunkydory?
>>
>>737079024

Titanfall 2 (was practically shut down for a while by griefers until servers were reverse engineered)

>>737079941
If you have to pay a fee to connect to their servers, then you know exactly when you won't be able to play anymore, skg goes after games that still require that internet connection but can be shutdown at any time without you knowing. Technically, if they put a clear indicator that paying $70for the game will give them access to it until a certain date and then it will be taken away, it's fine, but it's also pretty much suicide for sales.
>>
>>737075082
90% of the people opposing it on any given website are paid shills and guerilla marketers hired by Ubisoft or some other corporation that this threatens. The other 10% are divided between deliberate trolls just being contrarian for the kicks and illiterate retards being contrarian as a kneejerk response.

Even a video game dev actually working on those live service games should want this because it preserves your work that you busted your ass for. The only people that DON'T want this are publishers/producers that threaten to potentially lose some money from conversion sales when they shut down a previous game to push people to buy the new one.
