That doesn't even make sense. For you to be oblivious of bad writing/acting until learning Japanese would imply that every translation and dub is an improvement over the original, which you don't need to be Japanese to know is bullshit. Maybe an EOP might believe that shit, but I'm sure any other bilingual would agree that translations don't improve, but only take away from the original work.

It's real. The "joke" is that Mustard is a boomer that's trying to sound young and hip, so he says a bunch of redundant shit like super-final-deluxe-special third trial. English translated the words literally, while the spanish translation pretty much doubled down on it and took it to parody.

the average japanese never becomes fully literate because of their retarded writing system so they gotta keep it simple (which also nerfs their ability to think)
>>
>>737089620
A better question is how have you not learned japanese from sheer exposure yet? After this many years you ought to recognize at least 20% of vocabulary by ear and kanji is not difficult to memorize if you look up what the original glyph is supposed to represent.

I'm in agreement. The more Japanese I learn and the more I visit that country, the more I'm convinced that the average standard for media in that country is hot garbage and Nihonjin are legit semi-retarded and we only glorify them because of the 20 or so autuer-autist-genius schizos that actually pump out good shit.

God, chatting with Hostesses (as much as I love them) is so fucking vapid. I like them best when they're bringing me my drink as a good woman should.

Yes. It's worth it, but be warned that Jap is a "low-context" language so will feel a ton more rudimentary than English at first. But you'll quickly enough learn there is nuance abound, AND also you'll just how much idpol bullshit western localizers force into everything----but hopefully not, cause you wouldn't need localized versions at that point!

it really is like that which is why manga and anime is so popular in the first place and why mascots are needed to help convey meaning. almost nobody in japan reads classic literature or even regular novels because they can't understand the kanjis
>>
>>737094065
Well, I'm exaggerating to be honest, and in truth these complaints apply to the average normie as much as it does a hostess. You do need to be able to make small talk to have a good time at the hostess bar, and occasionally you'll bump into one you just don't gel with. So as much as it is likely that they have consumed some anime or videogame you're into, you also need to be ready to let the conversation flow to more normie talk like "oh what's it like in your country? Eeeeeh? I'd love to visit sometime. Aren't those mainlanders pesky ahahahaha."

As I said I don't hate em. I love paying money to have a pretty, provicatively-dressed lady shower me with attention and bring me drinks.
>>
>>737094461
I always imagine the discourse is basically what you see in the Yakuza game hostess bar minigames

If what you mean is that there's a lot of "heeeee? Ureshii!!! Oishi sou!" platitudes, then that's absolutely accurate; on some level they're trained to dish out those platitudes. It's the service they're offering you after all. It's their greatest strength.
>>
>>737093843

>>
In many cases, i do not notice when i slip some Japanese words and pronunciations. For example, when I laugh at something myself, I might say "sou desu ne" or "sou ka". I might shout "moo!" when I'm frustrated. But the most common slip seems to be "ee?" when I'm really confused about something. I guess they are smart-sounding because they belong to the culture of certain intellectual and bohemian social groups, and because it goes beyond the understanding of normies.
>>
>>737094651
I guess jap men are some NEET incels starved for human attention or something, cause NGL it sounds like an insufferable pain to sit there talking to someone just transactionally feigning interest and saying platitudes, and I can't imagine how anyone would willingly do that regularly
>>
>>737094840
>I might shout "moo!"
You temporarily become a cow.
>>
>>737094841
It's an Asian thing, our women aren't the demure stereotype you think they are, a lot can be more insufferable and argumentative than a white woman. So being able to pay for the fantasy of a woman who doesn't disagree is something people are quite willing (and very able) to do.

Trust me, they're good. You don't feel like they're feigning interest. Your SO probably gives off more "feigning interest vibe" than they do.

I love this bait because it gatekeeps dekinai niggers and keeps tourists in a perpetual sour grapes situation. Sorry fags, I'm playing the Hayarigami collection, and it's really, really good. But it's in Japanese! But don't worry, I'm sure it has "bad" writing, lmao!

Btw what gets translated (with localizer butchery at that) to the west is the equivalent of YA and Harry Potter shit at that. The Japanese equivalent to Book of the New Sun would never be translated to english. An entire, better world, forever out reach for fags.

This. How'd you miss it? Besides, writing and acting can be evaluated outside of the actual quality of the prose.
>What's the theme? Is there even a theme?
>Is it approached from all possible angles and are they represented fairly?
>Did the plot make sense?
>Are any of the character actions unjustified?

These are all questions that can be answered irrespective of the language.

That's a good way to think about it. Next time I see bait like this, I'll give it a pass.
I mostly learned Japanese for porn but a good mystery or thriller every once in a while might be nice. Thanks for the recommendation.

Try 2000. The rest are so rare you can actually never encounter them in your life. How many words do you know? Remembering and recognizing kanji is the exact same process as remembering a word, because what they're actually doing is learning a word USING kanji, not the kanji itself. What the kanji "means", and all its possible readings, come later when they ponder upon it. Such pondering is only useful for writers looking to do something interesting with the language, most don't examine japanese with such a lens.

>>737093675
>>737094292
This is just not true at all... where are you even getting this? Japanese people have to read classic literature in school. They have dictionaries and google if they spot the rare word they don't know about. All adults (except middle school dropouts I guess) can read almost anything.
>>
>>737097451
If you want a more mainstream one, 都市伝説解体センター is incredible and if you played any PC-98 horror games you'll love it. Obviously in Japanese. Also re-checking some games you might have played before you learned Japanese might be worth a try. FF Tactics wasn't that bad in English, but in Japanese the writing is superb. For more recent ones, FE Awakening goes from a 2/10 to a 6/10 in terms of writing, which isn't that great, but it is a titanic jump in quality.
>>
>>737097669
This is lile the meme that Japs can't write kanji because of cellphones. A bumass who didn't graduate high school and doesn't read still can fill out those bs city hall and bank forms without problems, and can make handwritten notes without issues in a split second. The most high tech, pretentious, tablet wielding Tokyou private high school still has those young fuckers grinding that shit for thousands of hours.

Yes. In ancient times the learnéd would acquire Latin skills to read Roman texts left behind from previous civilizations. Modern man must learn Japanese for good porn, because niggers

Is this a joke? Non-joyo kanji appear in almost all media. I'm not crapping on anything else you're saying, but it's a lot more than 2000, even when not talking about names.
