you can fuck around so much and change a billion things, but one of the best things is you can play every mission subsistence style.

I'm playing a game as old as Hitman 2 Silent Assassin and its a way harder stealth game than the Phantom Pain. I played it recently so i would know. Old Hitman is harder than practically any of Kojimas games for that matter. Same with Splinter Cell generally being harder and Thief too.
I mean for people who actually play as perfectionists regarding playing the games in their intended ways.

Harder = longer hours, more time consuming. That's my view that you spend longer amounts of time in things to master them. MGSV's time sink is in building your motherbase i suppose? i can't see a long list of things that give it long term value. It's not like it's missions are even that of a traditional stealth game either where theres usually is relplayability in them. The open world thing kind of nullifies it. It's only in how you approach an outpost in how you can change it. But the outposts themselves don't have much going on in them in terms of level design. So how do you make longer hours out of that? i feel like Ground Zeroes was the closest you could make a time sink argument for. If you play a modded version of Ghost Recon Breakpoint its practically identical to Phantom Pain.

What's the appeal of nu-Hitman? You just put on a costume to become invisible and walk around a level aimlessly until you can do a QTE kill. Seems like one of the worst games ever

Set your clock 1 year into the future
You now have those hours listed until you relaunch the game again and it corrects but when you restart steam or relogin it will be back to the extorted hours, i used this method on a game to play some events in the past and now i get this, lol lmao even.

MGSV is the ultimate proof that gameplay isnt the most important thing in a video game because the gameplay systems is immaculate, innovative and still the best stealth game ever made. It's so good that every other game has been copying parts of it for years now. The story sucks so bad that nobody really cares for it compared to the previous MGS games though, ultimately proving that story is way more important than gameplay.
